Benyoucef Benkhedda ( ar, بن يوسف بن خدة; February 23, 1920 – February 4, 2003) was an Algerian politician. He headed the third GPRA exile government of the National Liberation Front (FLN), acting as a leader during the Algerian War (1954–62). Abderrahmane Farès ( ar, عبدالرحمن فارس; ALA-LC: ''ʿAbd ar-Raḥman Fāris''; kab, ⵄⴻⴱⴷⴻⵔⴰⵃⵎⴰⵏ ⴼⴰⵔⴻⵙ, 'Ɛebderaḥman Fares; January 30, 1911 – May 13, 1991) was the Chairman of the Provisional Executive of Algeria from 13 April 1962 to 20 September 1962. Biography Farès, who was born in Amalou, Béjaïa Province, was a lawyer by profession. After the Second World War, Farès was elected to municipal council and the general council of Algiers. In the 1945 French Constituent Assembly election, Farès was the fourth candidate of the Union and Social Progress List for the Muslim non-citizen constituency of Algiers (which had four seats in total). The list won three of the four seats. When the elected Constituent Assembly member Bachir Abdelouahab resigned, Farès overtook his seat in the Assembly on March 14, 1946. The prime minister of Algeria is the head of government of Algeria. Aymen Benabderrahmane has been the prime minister since 30 June 2021. Ahmed Ben Bella ( ar, أحمد بن بلّة '; 25 December 1916 – 11 April 2012) was an Algerian politician, soldier and socialist revolutionary who served as the head of government of Algeria from 27 September 1962 to 15 September 1963 and then the first president of Algeria from 15 September 1963 to 19 June 1965. An independence referendum was held in French Algeria on 1 July 1962. It followed French approval of the Évian Accords in an April referendum. Voters were asked whether Algeria should become an independent state, co-operating with France; 99.72% voted in favour with a voter turnout of 91.88%. Following the referendum, France declared Algeria to be independent on 3 July; the decision was published in the official journal the following day, and Algerian leaders declared 5 July (the 132nd anniversary of the French arrival in Algiers) to be Independence Day. When Algeria ceased to be part of France it also ceased being part of the European Communities. Constituent Assembly elections were held in Algeria on 20 September 1962, the first legislative elections since independence in July. The Assembly was to have a one-year mandate to draw up and promulgate a constitution. A single list of 196 National Liberation Front candidates was put to voters to approve, 180 of which were Arabs and 16 of which were of European origin. Chaba Fadela (born Fadela Zalmat, 5 February 1962) is an Algerian raï musician and actress. Early life Raised in a poor neighborhood in Oran, Algeria and starred in the Algerian film ''Djalti'' at the age of 14. She launched her musical career as a singer in Boutiba S'ghir's band and began recording with producer Rachid Baba Ahmed in the late 1970s. She was the first woman to defy the ban on women singing in clubs, and she quickly reached great success in Algeria.
