1News is the news service of the New Zealand television network TVNZ. Its flagship programme is the daily evening newscast ''1News at Six''; other programmes include morning news-talk show ''Breakfast'', '' Te Karere'', '' Seven Sharp'', and Sunday morning political affairs program '' Q+A''. Television New Zealand (, "Te Reo Tātaki" meaning "The Leading Voice"), more commonly referred to as TVNZ, is a New Zealand state-owned media company and Crown entity. The company operates a television network, streaming service, and news service that is available throughout New Zealand and parts of the Pacific region. All of its currently-operating channels are free-to-air and funded through advertising. Melissa Stokes
Melissa Tania Stokes (born ) is a New Zealand television newsreader and reporter. She is the newsreader of ''1News'' during the weekends. Early life and education Stokes grew up in Tauranga. Her first job was working at the deli section of a New World supermarket. Her parents ran fabric shops and she worked for them as a teenager. At age 16, she and her family moved to Christchurch, where she finished high school and attended broadcasting school. Her uncle, Spencer Jolly, was a TVNZ journalist during Robert Muldoon's term as prime minister, and later worked for Channel 9 in Brisbane. Because of this, as a teenager Stokes visited the channel's studio. She has said her uncle partly inspired her to work in television. ''Seven Sharp'' is a half-hour-long New Zealand current affairs programme produced by TVNZ. The programme was created after the discontinuation of '' Close Up''. It broadcasts at 7 pm (straight after '' 1 News at Six'') every weekday on TVNZ 1. ''Seven Sharp'' typically presents 3 stories within a 30-minute timeslot every weeknight, and is designed to be more integrated with social media and real time opinions than its predecessor. ''Seven Sharp'' also shares its time slot with sister channel TVNZ 2's drama ''Shortland Street'', and Prime's '' The Crowd Goes Wild''. ''Te Karere'' (The Messenger) is a news and current affairs show that was New Zealand's first Māori language television programme. ''Te Karere'' is broadcast on Television New Zealand's TVNZ 1 at 4:00 pm on weekdays after Tipping Point (game show), Tipping Point and repeated 1:05 am and 5:35 am the following day. TVNZ 1 () is the first national television channel owned and operated by the state-owned broadcaster Television New Zealand (TVNZ). It is the oldest television broadcaster in New Zealand, starting out from 1960 as independent channels in the four main centres of Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin, networking in 1969 to become NZBC TV (although the individual facilities retained their call signs into the 1970s). Simon Dallow
Simon Dallow (born 18 June 1964) is a New Zealand journalist, former barrister and television personality. Early years Simon Dallow, who is the son of Ross Dallow, was educated at Liston College and St Peter's College. He completed his tertiary education at Auckland University, where he studied law. After completing his legal studies, Dallow practised as a litigation and insurance lawyer in Auckland, New Zealand. He discovered he had whakapapa Māori links aged 20. Whilst on his overseas experience, the 1987 stock market crash occurred, causing him to change careers, as a future in bankruptcy law was unappealing. Dallow then spent the next six years as a Contiki Tours tour director in Europe, where he met future wife Alison Mau. Both returned to New Zealand in 1993, and began working for TVNZ. Chris Chang (born ) is a New Zealand television presenter, who hosts the morning news programme ''Breakfast''. Early life and education Chang was born in Wellington. Chang's father was a Chinese Malaysian. From Wellington, Chang moved to Asia at age six, where he spent one and a half years in Singapore and the rest of time in Thailand, mostly in Bangkok. At age 12 he moved back to Wellington. At Victoria University of Wellington, Chang studied English and law. TVNZ 2 () is the second New Zealand television channel owned and operated by the state-owned broadcaster Television New Zealand (TVNZ). It targets a younger audience than its sister channel, TVNZ 1. TVNZ 2's line up consists of dramas, comedies, and reality TV shows. A small number are produced in New Zealand which are either of a comedic, soap opera or reality nature, with rest of the line-up taken from international catalogues.
