1999–2000 New York Knicks Season
The 1999–2000 NBA season was the 53rd season for the New York Knicks in the National Basketball Association. The Knicks entered the season as runner-ups of the 1999 NBA Finals, where despite losing to the San Antonio Spurs in five games, they became the first eighth seeded team to reach the NBA Finals. During the off-season, the team signed free agents John Wallace and Andrew Lang; Wallace previously played for the Knicks during the 1996–97 season. After advancing to the NBA Finals as the #8 seed last year, the Knicks won their first three games of the regular season, but then lost seven of their next ten games, as Patrick Ewing missed the first 20 games due to Achilles tendonitis. Jeff Van Gundy
Jeffrey William Van Gundy (born January 19, 1962) is an American basketball coach and former commentator who is currently the lead assistant coach for the Los Angeles Clippers. Van Gundy previously served as head coach of the New York Knicks and the Houston Rockets of the National Basketball Association (NBA). During his tenure with the Knicks, he led the team to the 1999 NBA Finals which they ultimately fell to the San Antonio Spurs. Van Gundy won an NBA championship in 2024 with the Boston Celtics where he served as a senior consultant in the front office. Atlantic Division (NBA)
The Atlantic Division is one of the three divisions in the Eastern Conference of the National Basketball Association (NBA). The division consists of five teams, the Boston Celtics, the Brooklyn Nets, the New York Knicks, the Philadelphia 76ers, and the Toronto Raptors. All teams, except the Raptors, are located on the East Coast of the United States. 2000 NBA Playoffs
The 2000 NBA playoffs was the postseason tournament of the National Basketball Association's 1999–2000 season. The tournament concluded with the Western Conference champion Los Angeles Lakers defeating the Eastern Conference champion Indiana Pacers four games to two in the 2000 NBA Finals. Shaquille O'Neal was named NBA Finals MVP for the first time in his career. This was also the first NBA postseason to not have any back-to-backs at all. NBA Sixth Man Of The Year
The National Basketball Association's Sixth Man of the Year (colloquially known as the 6MOY) is an annual National Basketball Association (NBA) award given since the 1982–83 NBA season to the league's best performing player for his team coming off the bench as a substitute (or sixth man). A panel of sportswriters and broadcasters from throughout the United States and Canada votes on the recipient. The 2000 NBA All-Star Game was an exhibition basketball game which was played on February 13, 2000, at The Arena in Oakland in Oakland, California, home of the Golden State Warriors. This game was the 49th edition of the North American National Basketball Association (NBA) All-Star Game and was played during the 1999–2000 NBA season. The 1998–99 game was canceled due to the NBA lockout. The Western Conference won the game with the score of 137–126 while Shaquille O'Neal and Tim Duncan were both named MVP of the game. Chris Childs (basketball)
Chris Childs (born November 20, 1967) is an American former professional basketball player, who played primarily at the guard position. Early basketball career Childs played his high school basketball at Foothill High School and starred at Boise State University in the late 1980s. Childs was the Big Sky Conference Player of the Year in 1989. Despite his collegiate success, Childs went undrafted in the 1989 NBA draft and began his professional career in the Continental Basketball Association. He played for three different teams in his first three seasons in the league, but eventually found a home with the Quad City Thunder. With the Thunder, Childs won a league title and the CBA Playoff Finals/MVP award in 1994 after averaging 17.9 points and 7.6 assists. Charlie Ward
Charlie Ward Jr. (born October 12, 1970) is an American former professional basketball player in the National Basketball Association (NBA) and current head coach for the Florida A&M Rattlers. Ward was an exceptional college football player as well, winning the Heisman Trophy, Davey O'Brien Award, and College Football National Championship as a quarterback for the Florida State Seminoles. Kurt Vincent Thomas (born October 4, 1972) is an American former professional basketball player. A 6'9", 230 lb. power forward- center, Thomas was known for his hard-nosed playing style and tough defense during his eight year tenure with the New York Knicks. Marcus Dion Camby (born March 22, 1974) is an American former professional basketball player who played 17 seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was named Defensive Player of the Year during the 2006–07 NBA season, leading the league in blocked shots per game.
