1999–2000 National League 1
The 1999–2000 National League 1, sponsored by Jewson, was the thirteenth full season of rugby union within the third tier of the English league system. Structure The league consisted of fourteen teams, playing each other on a home and away basis to make a total of twenty-six matches for each team. There were two promotion places with the top two teams promoted to the newly named 2000–01 National Division One (previously known as the Allied Dunbar Premiership Two). Two teams were relegated to either National League 2 North or South, depending on geographical location. Participating clubs Ten of the clubs participating in last seasons competition. To make up the numbers two of the teams (Birmingham & Solihull and Manchester) were promoted from National 2 North, and two from National 2 South (Camberley and Henley) were also promoted. Otley R
Otley is a market town and civil parish at a bridging point on the River Wharfe, in the City of Leeds metropolitan borough in West Yorkshire, England. Historically a part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, the population was 13,668 at the 2011 census. Newbury RFC
Newbury Rugby Football Club is a rugby union club based in Newbury, Berkshire, England. Following league reorganisation, they play in Regional 2 South Central, a league at tier 6 in the English rugby union system. Newbury RFC is a community rugby club using players drawn from the local community and those coached through its youth rugby program. History The club was founded in 1928 due to the efforts of Len Whittaker who left St. Bartholomews Grammar School in 1924. The first game took place on 15th September 1928 against Stoke RFC. This was the first of 23 games that season, during which the club won 13 matches and lost 10. Even throughout the early years of the club, the standard of play encouraged major sides such as Northampton, Gloucester, Harlequins, and Wasps to play against Newbury. Bracknell () is a town and civil parish in Berkshire, England, the westernmost area within the Greater London Built-up Area, Greater London Urban Area and the administrative centre of the borough of Bracknell Forest. The RFU Championship, 1998-99 Allied Dunbar Premiership Two was the twelfth full season of rugby union within the second tier of the English rugby union system, English league system, currently known as the RFU Championship. The league was expanded from twelve teams to fourteen and new teams to the division included Bristol Bears, Bristol who had been relegated from the 1997–98 English Premiership (rugby union), Allied Dunbar Premiership 1997–98 while London Welsh RFC, London Welsh, Rugby Lions, Leeds Tykes and Worcester Warriors, Worcester were promoted from National League 1.
