1999–2000 NBL Season
The 1999–2000 NBL season was the 22nd season of competition since its establishment in 1979. A total of 11 teams contested the league. The Newcastle Falcons folded and were replaced by the Cairns Taipans. Regular season The 1999-2000 regular season took place over 24 rounds between 2 October 1999 and 11 March 2000. National Basketball League (Australia)
The National Basketball League (NBL) is a men's Professional sports#Basketball, professional basketball list of basketball leagues, league in Australasia, currently composed of ten teams: nine in Australia and one in New Zealand. It is the premier professional men's basketball league in Australia and New Zealand. The NBL was established as the National Invitation Basketball League (NIBL) in 1978 and commenced its first season in 1979. It was renamed to the NBL in 1980. The league was played in the Australian winter until 1998 when it switched to summer seasons beginning with the 1998–99 season. The NBL's regular season runs from October to February, with each team playing 28 games. The league's finals extends into March, culminating with the Championship grand final series. Whitlam Centre
The Whitlam Leisure Centre is a multi-use indoor arena in western Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It was the first home of the former NBL team West Sydney Razorbacks. Facilities The site includes a full sized 50 meter swimming pool, a heated indoor 25 meter pool and several small wading and family pools. There is a full sized gym facility, the indoor stadium facility with a basketball court floor, and a variety of classes and programs. Short term child care is provided for a fee. Rebound (basketball)
In basketball, a rebound, sometimes colloquially referred to as a board, is a statistic awarded to a player who retrieves the ball after a missed field goal or free throw. Rebounds in basketball are a routine part in the game; if a shot is successfully made possession of the ball will change, otherwise the rebound allows the defensive team to take possession. Rebounds are also given to a player who tips in a missed shot on their team's offensive end. A rebound can be grabbed by either an offensive player or a defensive player. Rebounds are divided into two main categories: "offensive rebounds", in which the ball is recovered by the offensive side and does not change possession, and "defensive rebounds", in which the defending team gains possession. Melbourne United
Melbourne United is an Australian professional basketball team based in Melbourne, Victoria. United compete in the National Basketball League (NBL) and play their home games at John Cain Arena. The team made their debut in the NBL in 1984 as the Melbourne Tigers. The Tigers were led by coach Lindsay Gaze and his son Andrew from 1984 until 2005, with the pair guiding the Tigers to two championships in the 1990s. The pair were supported by fellow club legends such as Dave Simmons, Lanard Copeland and Mark Bradtke. The Derwent Entertainment Centre (DEC), known Naming rights, commercially as MyState Bank Arena since 2021, is Tasmania's largest indoor arena, serving as Hobart's primary location for large indoor sporting events, functions and live entertainment. Commissioned by the Tasmanian Government and the Glenorchy City Council, the DEC served as the home arena for the Hobart Devils in the National Basketball League Australia, NBL from 1989 until 1996, when the team's licence was revoked. Bendigo Stadium (also known as Red Energy Arena under naming rights) is an Australian sports and entertainment centre in Bendigo, Victoria. The stadium is home to the Bendigo Braves (NBL1) and Bendigo Spirit (WNBL). Wollongong Entertainment Centre (also known by its naming rights sponsor WIN Entertainment Centre and colloquially as the WEC) is a multi-purpose indoor arena located in Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia. AIS Arena is a multi-purpose arena in Canberra, Australia, located on the grounds of the Australian Institute of Sport. It was built in 1981 and was originally named the National Indoor Sports Centre. History The arena was designed by Philip Cox & Partners and the main contractor was John Holland Group.
