1999–2000 Eastern Counties Football League
The 1999–2000 season was the 58th in the history of Eastern Counties Football League a football competition in England. Histon were champions, winning their first Eastern Counties Football League title and were promoted to the Southern Football League for the first time in their history. Premier Division The Premier Division featured 20 clubs which competed in the division last season, along with two new clubs, promoted from Division One: * Clacton Town * Mildenhall Town Sudbury Town merged with Sudbury Wanderers to form new club AFC Sudbury. Histon won the league on the last day of the season, coming from behind to win 2-1 win away at Gorleston with Wayne Goddard scoring the winner in the 76th minute. The Eastern Counties Football League, currently known as the Thurlow Nunn League for sponsorship purposes, is an English football league at levels 9 and 10 of the English football league system. It currently contains clubs from Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, Cambridgeshire, eastern Hertfordshire, southern Lincolnshire, and north and east London. The league is a feeder to Division One North of the Isthmian League, but may also see sides promoted to the Northern Premier League Midlands Division. Tiptree is a large village and civil parish in the English county of Essex, situated south-west of Colchester and around north-east of London. The 2000–01 Southern Football League season was the 98th in the history of the league, an English football competition. Margate won the Premier Division and earned promotion to the Football Conference. Clevedon Town, Dorchester Town, Fisher Athletic and Halesowen Town were relegated from the Premier Division, whilst Chelmsford City, Tiverton Town, Newport (Isle of Wight) and Hinckley United were promoted from the Eastern and Western Divisions, the former two as champions. Bromsgrove Rovers and Paget Rangers were relegated to the eighth level, whilst Baldock Town and Witney Town of the Eastern Division folded at the end of the season. History Archaeology The region between Devil's Dyke and the line between Littleport and Shippea Hill shows a remarkable amount of archaeological findings of the Stone Age, the Bronze Age and the Iron Age. A couple of hoards of bronze objects were found in the area of Soham, including one with swords and spearheads of the later Bronze Age as well as a gold torc, retrieved in 1938. A large Anglo-Saxon settlement was discovered on land between Brook Street and Fordham Road, next to Roman remains in the old Fisky's Hill area and former allotment site in 2013 and onwards.
