The 1998–99 NBA season was the 31st season for the Phoenix Suns in the National Basketball Association. Due to a 1998–99 NBA lockout, lockout, the regular season began on February 5, 1999, and was cut from 82 games to 50. Daniel Ray Ainge ( ; born March 17, 1959) is an American former professional basketball player, coach, and professional baseball player who serves as the chief executive officer for the Utah Jazz of the National Basketball Association (NBA). During his 18-year career as general manager for the Boston Celtics, Ainge was known for making bold moves to help the team rebuild, and clearing cap space. He served as the Celtics' president of basketball operations from 2003 until his retirement in 2021. A three-sport star in high school, Ainge was named to All-America teams in football, basketball, and baseball. The 1998–99 NBA season was the 19th season for the Dallas Mavericks in the National Basketball Association. Due to a lockout, the regular season began on February 5, 1999, and was cut from 82 games to 50. The Mavericks received the sixth overall pick in the 1998 NBA draft, and selected power forward Robert Traylor from the University of Michigan, but soon traded him to the Milwaukee Bucks in exchange for their top draft pick, power forward and German basketball star Dirk Nowitzki. Clifford Robinson (basketball, Born 1966)
Clifford Ralph Robinson (December 16, 1966August 29, 2020) was an American professional basketball player who played 18 seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Selected in the second round of the 1989 NBA draft, he played the first eight seasons of his career with the Portland Trail Blazers, followed by stints with the Phoenix Suns, Detroit Pistons, Golden State Warriors, and New Jersey Nets. Robinson received the NBA Sixth Man of the Year Award in 1993 and was selected as an NBA All-Star in 1994. He played college basketball for the UConn Huskies. The Western Conference is one of two conferences that make up the National Basketball Association (NBA), the other being the Eastern Conference.
