1998 Supertaça Cândido De Oliveira
The 1998 Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira was the 20th edition of the Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira, the annual Portugal, Portuguese association football, football season-opening match contested by the winners of the previous season's top Primeira Liga, league and Taça de Portugal, cup competitions (or cup runner-up in case the league- and cup-winning club is the same). The 1998 Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira was contested over two legs, and opposed two Primeira Liga sides S.C. Braga, Braga and F.C. Porto, Porto. Porto qualified for the SuperCup by winning the 1997–98 Primeira Divisão and the 1997–98 Taça de Portugal, whilst Braga gained entry into the competition as the cup runners-up due to the ''Dragões'' claiming both league and cup in the same season. The Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira (; English: Cândido de Oliveira Super Cup, or simply Portuguese Super Cup) is an annual Portuguese association football, football match played since 1979 between the winners of the top-tier league (Primeira Liga) and cup (Taça de Portugal) competitions. The match and trophy are named after former Portuguese player, coach and sports journalist Cândido de Oliveira. Carlos Alberto de Oliveira Secretário (born 12 May 1970) is a Portuguese former professional footballer who played mainly as a right-back, currently a manager. In a 17-year career, in which he appeared in 341 Primeira Liga games and scored 12 goals, he played for six clubs in his country including Porto, with which he won 16 major titles. Fernando Manuel Fernandes da Costa Santos (born 10 October 1954) is a Portuguese professional football manager and former player who played as a left-back. He is the current coach of the Azerbaijan national team. He amassed Primeira Liga totals of 161 games and two goals over eight seasons, almost always with Estoril. Miklós "Miki" Fehér (; 20 July 1979 – 25 January 2004) was a Hungarian professional Association football, footballer who played as a Forward (association football)#Striker, striker. Ljubinko Drulović (; born 11 September 1968) is a Serbian former professional footballer who played as a winger, and is a current manager. He spent the most notable part of his playing career in Portugal, with stints at Porto and Benfica – a combined ten seasons between the two clubs, winning 14 major titles with the former. António José dos Santos Folha (born 21 May 1971) is a Portuguese retired professional footballer who played mostly as a winger, currently a manager. Fernando Manuel Antunes Mendes (born 5 November 1966) is a Portuguese former footballer who played as a left-back. He is the only player to have represented the five Portuguese clubs who have won a Primeira Liga title (Sporting CP, Benfica, Boavista, Belenenses and Porto). Club career Mendes was born in Setúbal.
