The Erovnuli Liga ( ka, ეროვნული ლიგა; ) is the top Division (sport), division of professional top tier Association football, football in Georgia (Country), Georgia. Since 1990, it has been organized by the Professional Football League of Georgia and Georgian Football Federation. From 1927 to 1989, the competition was held as a regional tournament within the Soviet Union. From 2017, the Erovnuli Liga switched to a spring-autumn system, with only 10 clubs in the top flight. History and format evolution The Erovnuli Liga ( ka, ეროვნული ლიგა) is the highest division of Georgian football, established in 1990 following the dissolution of the Soviet Union. Paata Machutadze ( ka, პაატა მაჭუტაძე; born 22 April 1968) is a former Georgian Association football, football striker. Machutadze spent eighteen seasons at FC Dinamo Batumi, Dinamo Batumi where he won the Georgian Cup and Georgian Super Cup, Supercup. Individually, Machutadze was the five-time team topscorer in the mid-1990s. Being a member of the List of Georgian football first tier players with 100 and more goals, 100 club, he is the highest scoring player for a single team. Giorgi Megreladze
Giorgi Megreladze (born 21 July 1978) is a retired Georgian footballer, the son of former Georgian football player and Torpedo Kutaisi star Merab Megreladze. Megreladze has played in six countries. He is the Georgian league winner with Torpedo and three-time team topscorer. Career Megreladze started his career at Samgurali, making his Umaglesi Liga debut at the age of 15 against Batumi on 6 December 1993. In 1995, Megreladze moved to Torpedo where he won the Umaglesi Liga five years later. During his three spells with Torpedo, Megreladze finished as the team goalscorer three times and accrued 80 goals in 184 league appearances combined. 1998–99 Pirveli Liga was the tenth season of the Georgian Pirveli Liga. The 1998–99 season saw 54 teams in competition: 29 teams in the Eastern Zone, and 26 teams in the Western Zone. FC WIT Georgia is a Georgian football team from Tbilisi. The team is sponsored by WIT Georgia Ltd (a subsidiary of the United States WIT, Inc.), a pet food, accessories, and human and veterinary pharmaceuticals import company. FC Locomotive Tbilisi, commonly referred to as Lokomotivi or simply Loco, is a Georgian professional football club based Tbilisi. The club competes in the Erovnuli Liga 2, the second tier of Georgian football. During the existence of the USSR the club was a part of the Lokomotiv Voluntary Sports Society. The club has strong connections with the Georgian Railways. History Locomotive was founded on 14 August 1936 as a part of Lokomotiv sports society. The club won Georgian championship in 1937, which gave them the permission to participate in USSR Top League. Their debut season in the highest level of the Soviet football championship came in 1938, where the club took 24th place out of 26 and got relegated.
