Ice Hockey
Ice hockey (or simply hockey in North America) is a team sport played on ice skates, usually on an Ice rink, ice skating rink with Ice hockey rink, lines and markings specific to the sport. It belongs to a family of sports called hockey. Two opposing teams use ice hockey sticks to control, advance, and Shot (ice hockey), shoot a vulcanized rubber hockey puck into the other team's net. Carolina Hurricanes
The Carolina Hurricanes (colloquially known as the Canes) are a professional ice hockey team based in Raleigh, North Carolina. The Hurricanes compete in the National Hockey League (NHL) as a member of the Metropolitan Division in the Eastern Conference (NHL), Eastern Conference. The team plays its home games at the Lenovo Center. The franchise was formed in 1971 as the New England Whalers of the World Hockey Association (WHA). The Whalers saw success immediately, winning the Eastern Division in the WHA's first three seasons and becoming the inaugural Avco World Trophy Champions to cap off the 1972–73 WHA Season, 1972–73 season. Jame Pollock
Jame Pollock (born June 16, 1979) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey defenceman. Pollock was born in Quebec City, Quebec, but grew up in Victoria, British Columbia. Playing career Pollock was drafted in the fourth round, 106th overall, in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft by the St. Louis Blues. After playing four seasons in the Western Hockey League for the Seattle Thunderbirds, Pollock joined the Blues' American Hockey League affiliate, the Worcester IceCats. He spent five seasons with the IceCats, and debuted in the National Hockey League with the Blues during the 2003–04 season. Pollock appeared in nine games with the Blues, recording no points. Pollock was an All Star defenceman on Canada's winning Spengler Cup team in 2003. During the 2004–05 NHL lockout, Pollock went to Switzerland's Nationalliga A and played for the Kloten Flyers and HC Lugano. Chris Bala
Christopher B. Bala (born September 24, 1978) is an American former professional ice hockey player. He played minor hockey in Pennsylvania before being recruited by Harvard University to play college hockey. After four years with Harvard, Bala, who was drafted 58th overall by the Ottawa Senators of the National Hockey League (NHL) in the 1998 NHL entry draft, joined the Senators and appeared in six games. He then the following seasons playing for the minor league affiliates of the Senators, Minnesota Wild and Colorado Avalanche in the American Hockey League. He was named an AHL All-Star in his rookie season in the AHL. He finished his career playing for the Reading Royals of the ECHL. Steve Gainey
Steve Gainey (born January 26, 1979) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey forward who played in parts of four seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Dallas Stars and Phoenix Coyotes. He is the son of former NHL player and executive Bob Gainey. Playing career Gainey was drafted in the third round, 77th overall, by the Dallas Stars in the 1997 NHL entry draft by his father, general manager Bob Gainey. Gainey attended St. Andrew's College for the 1994–95 academic year prior to playing for the WHL's Kamloops Blazers. He made his NHL debut on February 1, 2001, against the San Jose Sharks. On February 16, 2004, he was traded from the Stars, to the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for Mike Siklenka. However, Gainey only spent time with their AHL affiliate the Philadelphia Phantoms. The Dallas Stars are a professional ice hockey team based in Dallas. Josh Langfeld
Joshua Adam Langfeld (born July 17, 1977) is an American former professional ice hockey player. Playing career Langfeld was drafted in the 3rd round, 66th overall, in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft by the Ottawa Senators. He played four years at the University of Michigan before turning pro. Jani Hurme
Jani Petteri Hurme (born 7 January 1975) is a Finnish former professional ice hockey goaltender. He played 76 games in the National Hockey League with the Ottawa Senators and Florida Panthers between 2000 and 2003. He also played several seasons in the Finnish SM-liiga during his career, which lasted from 1993 to 2011. He was drafted by the Ottawa Senators in the third round of the 1997 NHL Entry Draft with the 58th overall pick. Ottawa Senators
The Ottawa Senators (), officially the Ottawa Senators Hockey Club and colloquially known as the Sens, are a professional ice hockey team based in Ottawa. The Senators compete in the National Hockey League (NHL) as a member of the Atlantic Division in the Eastern Conference. The team plays its home games at the 18,652-seat Canadian Tire Centre, which opened in 1996. Founded and established by Ottawa real estate developer Bruce Firestone, the team is the second NHL franchise to use the Ottawa Senators name. Stanislav Gron (born October 28, 1978) is a Slovak former professional ice hockey left winger. He was drafted by the New Jersey Devils in the second round, 38th overall, of the 1997 NHL Entry Draft. He played one game in the National Hockey League with the Devils during the 2000–01 season against the Carolina Hurricanes on February 23, 2001, being held without a point. New Jersey Devils
The New Jersey Devils are a professional ice hockey team based in Newark, New Jersey. The Devils compete in the National Hockey League (NHL) as a member of the Metropolitan Division in the Eastern Conference (NHL), Eastern Conference. The club was founded as the Kansas City Scouts in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1974–75 NHL season, 1974.
