1997–98 Esiliiga
The 1997–98 Esiliiga is the seventh season of the Esiliiga, second-highest Estonian league for association football clubs, since its establishment in 1992. Table Top scorers Premier Division promotion play-off None of the four Esiliiga teams were able to finish in the top two, so that they all remain in the second level of Estonian football system. Esiliiga
The Esiliiga is the second division in the Estonian football league system. The Esiliiga is ranked below the Meistriliiga and above the Esiliiga B. As in most countries with low temperatures in winter time, the season starts in March and ends in November. The league features several reserve teams of Meistriliiga clubs. According to the rules set by the Estonian Football Association, reserve teams are ineligible for promotion to the Meistriliiga, but can play in the Estonian Cup. Competition format During the season, the teams play each of the other four times twice at home and twice away. This makes for a total of 36 games played each season. The teams gain three points for a win, one for a draw, and none for a defeat. Promotion and relegation between divisions is a central feature of the league. KSK Vigri Tallinn
Vigri Tallinn was an Estonian professional football club active between 1980 and 2000. History The club was renamed Tevalte Tallinn at the start of the 1993–94 season. In its first season under the new name, the club had all but almost secured the Meistriliiga title, when the Estonian FA disqualified the team on match-fixing allegations. The title was then decided in a championship playoff, since Norma and Flora finished level on points. But, as a protest against the disqualification of Tevalte, Norma Tallinn decided to field their youth squad and lost the game 2–5. The match-fixing allegations were never proven and the club's Meistriliiga status was restored for the 1995–96 season, by FIFA decision. The history of the original Vigri, however, ended the same year, when the club was acquired by AS Marlekor, the same company that privatized "Tallinn's furniture and wood veneer factory" (abbreviated simply as TVMK in Estonian).
