Central Hockey League
The Central Hockey League (CHL) was a North American mid-level minor professional ice hockey league which operated from 1992 until 2014. It was founded by Ray Miron and Bill Levins and later sold to Global Entertainment Corporation, which operated the league from 2000 to 2013, at which point it was purchased by the individual franchise owners. As of the end of its final season in 2014, three of the 30 National Hockey League teams had affiliations with the CHL: the Dallas Stars, Minnesota Wild, and Tampa Bay Lightning. Several teams of defunct leagues joined the CHL along its history, including the Southern Hockey League (1995–96), Southern Hockey League, Western Professional Hockey League and International Hockey League (2007–2010), International Hockey League. After two teams suspended operations during the 2014 offseason, the ECHL accepted the remaining seven teams as members in October 2014, meaning the end for the CHL after 22 seasons. The Fort Worth Fire were a professional ice hockey team in the Central Hockey League. Their home games were played in the Fort Worth Convention Center Arena. Nashville Municipal Auditorium
The Nashville Municipal Auditorium is an indoor sports and concert venue in Nashville, Tennessee. It opened October 7, 1962 with both an arena and exhibition hall. The former exhibition hall has been permanent home to the Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum since 2013. Nashville Municipal Auditorium has been home to the Nashville Kats (2024), Nashville Kats of Arena Football One (2025), Arena Football One since 2024. Nashville Ice Flyers
The Nashville Ice Flyers (named the Nashville Nighthawks for the 1996–97 season) were a professional ice hockey franchise that played in the Central Hockey League from 1996–1998. Based in Nashville, Tennessee, they played their home games at Nashville Municipal Auditorium. 1997–98 season Alexsandr Chunchukov lead the team in points in the 1997–98 season, with 102 points. Iain Duncan also played for the Ice Flyers in the 1997–98 season. Duncan had previously spent time in the National Hockey League and the AHL. David Lohrei was the head coach for the 1997–98 season. Lohrei and his staff brought in 17 new players after taking over, many of whom were rookies in the league. The Ice Flyers powered their way to 41 wins in 1997–98, but were defeated by the Columbus Cottonmouths in the second round of the CHL playoffs. Macon Coliseum
The Macon Coliseum is a multi-purpose arena in Macon, Georgia, United States. It is home to the Macon Mayhem, a minor-league hockey team in the SPHL. The Centerplex was home to the Macon Whoopee (ECHL), Macon Whoopee (CHL) and Macon Trax ice hockey teams and the Macon Knights arena football team. Macon Whoopee (CHL)
The Macon Whoopee was a professional ice hockey team that played from 1996 until 2001 in the Central Hockey League (CHL). Located in Macon, Georgia, the team played its home games at the Macon Coliseum. History A professional ice hockey team known as the Macon Whoopees, played in the Southern Hockey League during the 1973–74 season, but poor attendance led the team to disband mid-season. Hockey was not resurrected in Macon until 1996. The new team, known as the "Whoopee" (without the plural "s"), played in the Central Hockey League from 1996 to 2001. After several owners endured seasons of poor attendance and financial losses, the team went bankrupt in 2001. The Von Braun Center (known as Von Braun Civic Center until 1997) is an entertainment complex, with a maximum arena seating capacity of 9,000, located in Huntsville, Alabama.
