1997 Challenge Cup
The 1997 Challenge Cup, known as the Silk Cut Challenge Cup for sponsorship reasons, was the 96th staging of the Challenge Cup, a European rugby league cup competition. The competition ended with the final on 3 May 1997, which was played at Wembley Stadium. The trophy was won and successfully defended by St. Helens, who beat Bradford Bulls 32–22 in the final. The Lance Todd Trophy was won by Tommy Martyn. Danny Peacock is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer. He has played for the Western Suburbs Magpies, South Queensland Crushers, Gold Coast Seagulls and Bradford Bulls as a , or . James Lowes
James Lowes is a former professional rugby league footballer, and coach. He played for Hunslet and Leeds, but arguably his best years were spent with the Bradford Bulls, where he won many trophies. He played there from 1996 to 2003. Club career Lowes began his career at Hunslet, joining from junior club Hunslet Parkside in October 1986. He was signed by Leeds in 1992 for an initial transfer fee of £30,000. Lowes had usually played as a stand-off or scrum-half during his early career, but was converted into a hooker when he joined Leeds. Lowes moved to Bradford Bulls for the inaugural Super League season in 1996, following the expiry of his contract at Leeds. Paul Loughlin
Paul John Loughlin (born 28 July 1966) is an English former rugby league who played for his hometown team St Helens, the Bradford Bulls, the Huddersfield Giants and the Swinton Lions. Loughlin was born in St. Helens, Lancashire, England. He made his first team début for St. Helens against Oldham aged 17 in 1984. He went on to score over 2,000 points for the club, and holds the club record for most points scored in a game - 2 tries and 16 goals for a total of 40 points in a 112–0 victory over Carlisle during September 1986. Carlisle RLFC were a rugby league team based in Carlisle, Cumbria. The club was called Carlisle Border Raiders for the 1997 season, after which it merged with Barrow Braves.
