1996–97 Hong Kong FA Cup was the 23rd staging of the Hong Kong FA Cup. It was competed by all of the 7 teams from Hong Kong First Division League and Yee Hope from the Second Division. The competition kicked off on 6 May 1997 and finished on 1 June with the final. Instant-Double captured the cup for the first time after beating Sing Tao by golden goal in the final. Double Flower Football Association () is a Hong Kong football club which plays in the Hong Kong Third Division. The club was very successful in 1990s in the then top-tier First Division under the name Instant-Dict (). Major events * 1981–82 season: The club finished second in the Third Division and were promoted to Second Division. * 1984–85 season: The club finished third in the Second Division and were promoted to First Division, then the top league in Hong Kong football. * 1985–86 season: The club faced Seiko in their First Division debut, in which they led 3–2 at the beginning of the second half but then conceded 5 goals and lost the match 3–7. Penalty Shootout (association Football)
In association football, a penalty shoot-out (previously known as kicks from the penalty mark) is a tie-breaking method to determine which team is awarded victory in a match that cannot end in a draw, when the score is tied after the normal time as well as extra time (if used) has expired. For example, in a FIFA World Cup, penalties are used in elimination matches; the round of 32, the round of 16, the quarter-finals, the semi-finals, and the final. In a penalty shoot-out, each team takes turns shooting at goal from the penalty mark, with the goal defended only by the opposing team's goalkeeper. Each team has five shots which must be taken by different players; the team that makes more successful kicks is declared the victor. Shoot-outs finish as soon as one team has an insurmountable lead. Golden Goal
The golden goal is a sports rule used in association football, Australian rules football, bandy, field hockey, ice hockey, lacrosse, and rugby league to decide the winner of a match (typically a knock-out match) in which scores are equal at the end of regular time. It is a type of sudden death. Under this rule, the game ends when a goal is scored; the team that scores that goal during extra time is the winner. Introduced formally in 1993, though with some history before that, the rule ceased to apply to most FIFA-authorized football games in 2004. The similar silver goal supplemented the golden goal between 2002 and 2004. Sing Tao Sports Club ( zh, t=星島體育會) was a Hong Kong football club which was dissolved after the 1998–99 season. The club was established by Aw Hoe ( zh, t=胡好), a director of ''Sing Tao Daily'' in 1940. The first team made their first appearance in the first division in the 1940–41 season. The team relegated to the second division twice, in 1962–63 and 1972–73 seasons respectively. The club turned professional in the 1968–69 season. They were promoted back to the first division again in 1987–88 and stayed until it was dissolved in 1999 by Sing Tao Limited, at that time a subsidiary of Sing Tao Holdings.
