FC Dinamo Tbilisi
FC Dinamo Tbilisi ( ka, დინამო თბილისი, ) is a Georgian professional football club based in Tbilisi that competes in the Erovnuli Liga, the top flight of Georgian football. Dinamo Tbilisi was one of the most prominent clubs in Soviet football and a major contender in the Soviet Top League almost immediately after it was established in 1936. The club was then part of one of the leading sport societies in the Soviet Union, the All-Union Dynamo sports society which had several other divisions besides football and was sponsored by the Soviet Ministry of Internal Affairs. Its main claim to European fame was winning the Cup Winners' Cup in 1981, beating FC Carl Zeiss Jena of East Germany 2–1 in the final in Düsseldorf. It remains the only club based in Georgia to have ever lifted a trophy in European competition. FC Merani Tbilisi is a Georgian football club based in Tbilisi. They play in the Liga 3, the third division in Georgian football. They play their home games at Sinatle Stadium. FC Margveti Zestaponi
Margveti Zestaponi was a Georgian association football club based in Zestaponi between 1990 and 2000. History In 1990 the Georgian Football Federation was founded to hold their own football competition and leave the Soviet football league system. Clubs like FC Dinamo Tbilisi and FC Guria Lanchkhuti gave up their place in the Soviet Top League to join. At that time Zestaponi had their own club FC Metallurg Zestaponi. A new club, formed as Margveti Zestaponi, joined Pirveli Liga and was promoted in the first season. Margveti was a member of Umaglesi Liga and achieved their best season in 1995–96 by finishing runner-up. But in the 1997–98 season, Margveti finished at the bottom and was relegated. FC Kolkheti 1913, commonly referred to as Kolkheti Poti, is a Georgia (country), Georgian association football, football club based in Poti. The team competes in the Erovnuli Liga, the top division of Football in Georgia (country), Georgian football. Being registered in 1913, Kolkheti is considered one of the oldest clubs in the South Caucasus. They are the two-time winners of the Soviet republican championship. FC Tskhinvali
FC Tskhinvali is a defunct Georgian football club, which in mid-2010s spent four seasons in the top tier of the national league. Despite the name, due to the enduring Georgian–Ossetian conflict they were unable to host their opponents in the city of Tskhinvali, playing home games instead in Georgian-controlled areas, mostly in Gori, Tbilisi and Rustavi. In early 2020, the club was disqualified from Liga 3 after their failure to solve a severe financial crisis. FC Shevardeni-1906 Tbilisi was a Georgian football club based in Tbilisi. They most recently played in the Liga 3, the third tier of Georgian football from 2023. They were one of the oldest Georgian association football clubs. History Shevardeni were founded in 1906 after a Czech public figure named Jaroslav Svatoš invited several athletics coaches to Georgia at the end of the 19th century and formed a sports society called ''Sokol'' (Czech word for Falcon that was later translated to Georgian Shevardeni). FC Arsenali Tbilisi was a Georgian association football club based in Tbilisi. History The club was founded in 1940 as the military club DKA Tbilisi. In the beginning, they played in local competitions. In 1945 the club made his debut in the Group II of the USSR Championship, where he took 4th place. They also competed in the USSR Cup, where he reached the quarter-finals. In 1946 it changed its name to DO Tbilisi. Before the 1950 season began, the USSR football system was reorganized and the Tbilisi club was deprived of the best teams. FC Kakheti Telavi
FC Kakheti Telavi was a Georgian football club based in Telavi. They played in the Umaglesi Liga, the top division in Georgian football from 2005 to 2007, but were relegated to Pirveli Liga, the Georgian second division. The club did not win a match in their relegation season of 2006–07. Kakheti Telavi finished seventh in the Pirveli Liga's Eastern (or Aghmoslaveti) Zone in the 2007–08 season. The club played their home games at Municipal Stadium. Previously, the club was known as FC Nadikvari Telavi. The club also twice won the Georgian Cup during the Soviet era, in 1972 and 1977. FC Locomotive Tbilisi, commonly referred to as Lokomotivi or simply Loco, is a Georgian professional football club based Tbilisi. The club competes in the Erovnuli Liga 2, the second tier of Georgian football. During the existence of the USSR the club was a part of the Lokomotiv Voluntary Sports Society. The club has strong connections with the Georgian Railways. History Locomotive was founded on 14 August 1936 as a part of Lokomotiv sports society. The club won Georgian championship in 1937, which gave them the permission to participate in USSR Top League. The team is sponsored by WIT Georgia Ltd (a subsidiary of the United States WIT, Inc.), a pet food, accessories, and human and veterinary pharmaceuticals import company. FC Metalurgi Rustavi
Metalurgi Rustavi was a Georgian football team based in Rustavi, which has twice won the national league. In Soviet times, the club played under the name "Metalurgi" (Rustavi), then during the independence of Georgia, the club was called "Gorda" (Rustavi) and FC Rustavi. After FC Tbilisi merged with club FC Rustavi in 2006, FC Olimpi Rustavi was established. History Football in Rustavi could be traced back to Metalurgi Rustavi in the Soviet era.
