1996–97 England Hockey League Season
The 1996–97 English Hockey League season took place from October 1996 until April 1997. The Men's National League was won by Reading with the Women's National League going to Slough. The Men's Hockey Association Cup was won by Teddington and the AEWHA Cup was won by Ipswich. Men's England Hockey League
The Men's England Hockey League is a field hockey league organised by England Hockey that features men's teams from England and Wales. Format Regular season There are 62 teams in the league, the top tier consists of a Premier Division of twelve teams. Below this is tier two, which consists of two ten-team Division One regional teams (North and South). The third tier consists of three regional conferences North, West, and East, all consisting of ten teams. The teams play each other home and away during an 18 week season from September to April. The league has a winter break between December and February. The winners of the Premier Division regular season automatically qualify to play in the Euro Hockey League. Clifton Hockey Club
Clifton Robinsons Hockey Club is a field hockey club based at Westbury-on-Trym in Bristol. It was formed by the merging of Clifton Ladies Hockey Club and Robinsons Hockey Club. The clubs had shared close links for many years, sharing pitches, umpires, coaches and annual dinners and in summer 2016 joined to form a single club. The Ladies' 1st XI play in the Women's England Hockey League and the Men's 1st XI play in the Men's England Hockey League. The club fields six ladies' and seven men's league sides and as well as junior and masters teams. As Clifton Ladies, the club has won the Women's Cup on four occasions (1998, 2000, 2016 and 2019) and was runner-up in 1996, 1997, 2005, 2013 and 2015. Jon Wyatt
Jonathan Francis Wyatt (born 12 February 1973) is a British former field hockey player who competed in the 1996 Summer Olympics and in the 2000 Summer Olympics. Biography Wyatt was educated at Royal Grammar School, High Wycombe and played club hockey for Reading in the Men's England Hockey League and it was while at Reading that he made his major tournament appearances. At the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, he represented Great Britain. He won a bronze medal representing England at the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur and participated in the 1998 Men's Hockey World Cup. Simon Nicklin
Simon Roger Nicklin (born 23 September 1972) is a British former field hockey player who competed in the 1992 Summer Olympics. Biography Nicklin was born in Wallingford, Oxfordshire, England and educated at Sir William Borlase's Grammar School. While at the school he was selected for the England U21 team. He played club hockey for Slough in the Men's England Hockey League and at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, he represented Great Britain. James Wallis (born 13 June 1974) is an English former field hockey midfielder. He competed at the 2000 Summer Olympics and the 2004 Summer Olympics. Biography Wallis nicknamed ''Wal'', ''Kipper'' and ''Ratty'', played club hockey for Teddington Hockey Club in the Men's England Hockey League. In January 1995 he was selected for the England U21 team. He made his debut for England in 1995 and represented England and won a bronze medal, at the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur. Jason George Laslett (born 1 July 1969) is a former international field hockey player who competed at the 1992 Summer Olympics and the 1996 Summer Olympics. Biography Laslett was born in Canterbury, Kent. He was educated at Millfield School. He made his England U18 debut in April 1986, while at Millfield and Canterbury Hockey Club. He left Canterbury to play club hockey for Teddington Hockey Club in the Men's England Hockey League for the 1988/89 season. He would go on to win the league title in 1995 and the Hockey Association Cup twice in 1994 and 1996. He made his Great Britain debut during the June 1990 BMW Trophy tournament in Amsterdam. Jonathan Ebsworth (born 15 August 1978) is a British former field hockey player.
