The 1996–97 Detroit Red Wings season was the 71st National Hockey League season in Detroit, Michigan. The highlight of the Red Wings season was winning the Stanley Cup, their first since 1955. Western Conference (NHL)
The Western Conference (french: Conférence de l'Ouest) is one of two conferences in the National Hockey League (NHL) used to divide teams. Its counterpart is the Eastern Conference. History Originally named the Clarence Campbell Conference (or Campbell Conference for short), it was created in 1974 when the NHL realigned its teams into two conferences and four divisions. Because the new conferences and divisions had little to do with North American geography, geographical references were removed. The conferences and divisions were re-aligned in 1981 to better reflect the geographical locations of the teams, but the existing names were retained with the Campbell Conference becoming the conference for the NHL's westernmost teams. The 1996–97 Edmonton Oilers season was the Oilers' 18th season in the NHL. They were coming off a 30–44–8 record, earning 68 points in the 1995–96 season, which led them to failing to qualify for the post-season for the 4th time in a row. The 1996–97 New Jersey Devils season was the 23rd season for the National Hockey League franchise that was established on June 11, 1974, and 15th season since the franchise relocated from Colorado prior to the 1982–83 NHL season. Bill Evo (born February 21, 1954) is an American lawyer and a former professional ice hockey player and executive. Hockey career Evo played major junior hockey in the Ontario Hockey League with the Peterborough Petes from 1971 to 1974. He was selected by the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League (NHL) in the third round (45th overall) of the 1974 NHL amateur draft, and was also drafted by the Cincinnati Stingers in the second round (22nd overall) of the 1974 WHA Secret Amateur Draft. Between 1974 and 1976, Evo played 97 games in the World Hockey Association, with the Michigan Stags/Baltimore Blades (team moved mid-season), Edmonton Oilers and Cleveland Crusaders, scoring 14 goals and 18 assists for 32 points, while earning 85 penalty minutes. 1954–55 NHL Season
The 1954–55 NHL season was the 38th season of the National Hockey League. The Detroit Red Wings were the Stanley Cup champions as they defeated the Montreal Canadiens four games to three in the best-of-seven final series.
