1996–97 Cypriot Fourth Division
The 1996–97 Cypriot Fourth Division was the 12th season of the Cypriot fourth-level football league. Adonis won their 1st title. Format Fourteen teams participated in the 1996–97 Cypriot Fourth Division. All teams played against each other twice, once at their home and once away. The team with the most points at the end of the season crowned champions. The first three teams were promoted to the 1997–98 Cypriot Third Division and the last three teams were relegated to regional leagues. Point system Teams received three points for a win, one point for a draw and zero points for a loss. Cypriot Fourth Division
The Cypriot Fourth Division () was the fourth tier Association football, football league competition in Cyprus, ran by the Cyprus Football Association. Each year, the top finishing teams of the league were promoted to the Cypriot Third Division, and the lowest finishing teams were relegated to the amateur leagues. History The Cypriot Fourth Division started the 1985–86 football season as the fourth level of the Cypriot football. The decision was taken by CFA on 23 July 1985. The first eight seasons the championship was split into three or four geographical groups, representing the Districts of Cyprus. Fotiakos Frenarou
Frenaros (; ) is a village in the Famagusta District of Cyprus, located 4 miles west of Paralimni and 9 miles northwest of Ayia Napa. In 2011, it had a population of 4,298. Overview Frenaros was named after the Fremenors, a group of Lusignan monks who lived in a nearby monastery. The earliest recorded reference to the village dates back to 1498, during the country's Venetian period. According to Venetian documents, the village was split into two villages whose names roughly translated to "Lower Frenaro" and "Upper Frenaro". The 1565 census marked the final instance of Frenaros being recorded as two separate villages rather than the single entity it is today. 1996–97 Cypriot Cup
The 1996–97 Cypriot Cup was the 55th edition of the Cypriot Cup. A total of 50 clubs entered the competition. It began on 9 November 1996 with the preliminary round and concluded on 17 May 1997 with the final which was held at Makario Stadium. APOEL won their 16th Cypriot Cup trophy after beating Omonia 2–0 in the final. Format In the 1996–97 Cypriot Cup, participated all the teams of the Cypriot First Division, the Cypriot Second Division, the Cypriot Third Division and 9 of the 14 teams of the Cypriot Fourth Division. The competition consisted of six knock-out rounds. In the preliminary round and in the first round each tie was played as a single leg and was held at the home ground of one of the two teams, according to the draw results. The 1996–97 Cypriot First Division was the 58th season of the Cypriot top-level football league. Anorthosis won their 8th title. Format Fourteen teams participated in the 1996–97 Cypriot First Division. All teams played against each other twice, once at their home and once away. The team with the most points at the end of the season crowned champions. The last three teams were relegated to the 1997–98 Cypriot Second Division. The champions ensured their participation in the 1997–98 UEFA Champions League and the runners-up in the 1997–98 UEFA Cup. The teams had to declare their interest to participate in the 1997 UEFA Intertoto Cup before the end of the championship.
