The 1996 Oporto Open – Singles was an event of the 1996 Oporto Open men's tennis tournament which was part of World Series of the 1996 ATP Tour and held from 10 June until 16 June 1996 in Porto, Portugal. The draw consisted of 32 players and eight of them were seeded. Alberto Berasategui was the defending champion but lost in the first round to Mikael Tillström. Unseeded Félix Mantilla won in the final 6–7(5–7), 6–4, 6–3 against sixth-seeded Hernán Gumy. Alberto Berasategui
Alberto Berasategui Salazar (born 28 June 1973) is a former top-10 professional tennis player from Spain. He was a Grand Slam finalist at the 1994 French Open, and won a total of 14 ATP singles titles, achieving a career-high singles ranking of world No. 7 in November 1994. Tennis career Berasategui won a total of 14 top-level singles titles and one tour doubles title. All of them, as well as all losses in finals, were on clay. He won at least one singles title for six consecutive years (1993–1998). He began playing tennis at age seven and was the European junior champion in 1991. Emilio Sánchez
Emilio Ángel Sánchez Vicario (; born 29 May 1965) is a Spanish former doubles world No. 1 tennis player. He won five Grand Slam doubles titles and the men's doubles silver medal at the 1988 Olympic Games. Sánchez is the older brother of multiple Grand Slam winner Arantxa Sánchez Vicario, with whom he partnered to win the Hopman Cup in 1990. Andrei Eduardovich Chesnokov (; born 2 February 1966) is a former professional tennis player from Russia. Career Chesnokov's highest singles ranking was World No. 9 in 1991. The biggest tournament victories of his career came at the Monte Carlo Open in 1990, and at the Canadian Open in 1991 (both Tennis Masters Series events). Kris Goossens (born 20 February 1974) is a former professional tennis player from Belgium. Omar Camporese (; born 8 May 1968) is a former professional tennis player from Italy. Career Born in Bologna, Camporese turned professional in 1987.
