1996 CONCACAF Gold Cup
The 1996 CONCACAF Gold Cup was the third edition of the Gold Cup, the soccer championship of North America, Central America and the Caribbean (CONCACAF). The tournament returned to the United States and California; the games were hosted by Los Angeles, San Diego, and Anaheim. The format of the tournament changed from 1993: it was expanded to nine teams, separated into three groups of three and played in January as opposed to the 1993 edition which was played in July. The top team in each group, plus the best second-place finisher would advance to the semifinals. For the first time, a non-CONCACAF team was invited: Brazil, who sent their under-23 side. Mexico won their second straight Gold Cup, beating the Brazilians 2–0 in the final. Juan Manuel Funes
Juan Manuel Funes Fernández (born May 16, 1966), popularly known as ''Memín'' Funes is a Guatemalan football coach and former midfielder who played professionally for the three most successful clubs in Guatemala – Aurora F.C., Municipal, and Comunicaciones – and became a member and later captain of the Guatemala national team, which he represented in five World Cup qualification processes. He was recently manager for Liga Nacional club Santa Lucía. As of October 2006, he was part of the coaching staff of the Guatemala under-17 team. Claudio Suárez
Claudio Suárez Sánchez (; born 17 December 1968) is a Mexican former professional footballer who played as a centre-back. Nicknamed ''El Emperador'' (The Emperor). Club career Born in Texcoco, State of Mexico and nicknamed ''El Emperador'' ("The Emperor"), Suárez began his club career with UNAM, where he played from 1988 to 1996 where he became champion in 1991. Atlas Fútbol Club () is a Mexican professional football club based in Guadalajara, Jalisco that currently plays in Liga MX. It plays home matches at the Estadio Jalisco. Bora Milutinović
Velibor "Bora" Milutinović ( sr-Cyrl, Велибор Бора Милутиновић; born 7 September 1944) is a Serbian former professional footballer and manager. He has managed at five editions of the FIFA World Cup, tied for the record alongside Brazilian manager Carlos Alberto Parreira, but did so in five consecutive World Cups with different teams: Mexico (1986), Costa Rica (1990), the United States (1994), Nigeria (1998), and China (2002). Edwin Rodolfo Westphal Véliz (born 4 March 1966) is a Guatemalan former professional footballer who played as a forward. As a member of several clubs, he was a prolific goalscorer in the Guatemalan top-flight, especially during the 1990s. He was also a member of the Guatemala national team. Julio Alberto Rodas Hurtarte (born 9 December 1966) is a retired Guatemalan professional football striker. Club career At the club level, Rodas started his professional career playing for Municipal. Jorge Alexander Rodas Hurtarte (born October 9, 1971) is a retired Guatemalan professional football midfielder. He last played for Aurora F.C. in the Guatemalan '' Primera División'' as of the end of the 2007-08 season.
