1995–96 Pilkington Cup
The 1995–96 Pilkington Cup was the 25th edition of England's premier rugby union club competition. Bath won the competition defeating Leicester in the final. The attendance of 75,000 was a world record for a rugby union match. The final ended in controversy after the referee Steve Lander awarded a penalty try in the last minute of the match which sealed victory for Bath. Anglo-Welsh Cup
The Anglo-Welsh Cup (), was a cross-border rugby union knock-out cup competition that featured the 12 Premiership Rugby clubs and the four Welsh regions. It was a created as a replacement for the RFU Knockout Cup, which featured only English clubs. The competition was replaced by the Premiership Rugby Cup, involving only the 12 English Premiership clubs, beginning with the 2018–19 season. History Background RFU Knockout Cup From 1971 to 2005, English clubs played in the RFU Knockout Cup. At its formation, it was the highest honour that a club could win, as there were no nationally organised leagues until merit leagues were introduced in 1984, followed by the full national league pyramid in 1987. Andy Nicol
Andrew Douglas Nicol (born 12 March 1971), is a former Scotland international rugby union player. A scrum-half, Nicol won 23 caps for Scotland and had brief spells as a replacement on two British & Irish Lions tours. Rugby Union career Amateur career Nicol was born on 12 March 1971 in Dundee and educated at the High School of Dundee and Dundee Institute of Technology (now Abertay University). He played for Dundee HSFP. Provincial and professional career In the amateur era Nicol played for North and Midlands. When the game turned professional Nicol played for Bath. As captain of Bath, he was the first British player to lift the Heineken Cup, when they defeated Brive in 1998. In 1999 Nicol moved from Bath to Glasgow Warriors. Steve Hackney
Stephen Thomas Hackney (born 13 June 1968) is an English former rugby union player. A wing he played in England's top division of domestic rugby union for Nottingham and Leicester Tigers, and also played in the second division for Moseley and Waterloo. He played for England A in 1993, scoring four tries in a match against and played for in the 1995 Hong Kong Sevens tournament. He started in the 1997 Heineken Cup Final for Leicester Tigers. Neil McCarthy (rugby Union)
Neil McCarthy (born 29 November 1974) is an English former Rugby union player. McCarthy was born in Slough. He was in the team for the 1999 Rugby World Cup in Wales and is one of only a handful of players to have an England cap at every representative level (U16; U18; U21; Saxons & Senior). He played as a hooker but could also cover prop. He was involved with the England team from 1999 to 2000, including the Rugby World Cup 1999. McCarthy started his early rugby career at Bath academy before moving to Gloucester and then to Bristol where his career was effectively ended in 2002 by a serious knee injury. McCarthy spent two years attempting to come back from the injury which included a final spell with Orrell Rugby, eventually retiring in 2004 after further complications from the original injury. Darren Crompton
Darren Crompton (born 12 September 1972) is a retired professional rugby union player. He played for Richmond, Bath, Cardiff Blues, Bristol, Weston and has also represented England at many levels. Professional career Crompton began his professional career with Bath in 1993, before moving to Bristol in 1999 after a spell at Richmond. He played for Bristol for four years, making up his first stint at the club, before moving to the Cardiff Blues for the 2003-04 Celtic League. Dave Hilton (born 3 April 1970 in Bristol, England) is an English-born former Scotland international rugby union player. He was capped 42 times for the Scotland national rugby union team. In his club career he played for Bath Rugby, Glasgow Warriors and Bristol. His position of choice is as a prop. Graham Dawe
Richard Graham Reed Dawe (born 4 September 1959 in Tavistock) is a former English rugby union footballer and the former coach of Plymouth Albion. He played for Bath Rugby, Sale Sharks, Plymouth Albion and Launceston. Dawe earned 5 caps for England, from 1987 to 1995. He made his debut in the Five Nations in 1987. He was selected for the Rugby World Cup finals in 1987, playing a single match, and again in 1995 when he played against Manu Samoa. John Mallett
John Anthony Mallett (born in Lincoln, 28 May 1970) is a former English rugby union footballer. He played as a prop. Mallett was educated at St Hugh's School, Woodhall Spa until age of 13, he then moved to Millfield and played for Bath Rugby until 2002. Martin Haag
Martin Haag (born 28 July 1968 in Chelmsford, England) was an English rugby union player who principally played for Bath Rugby and was capped twice by England. In March 2016 he was appointed head coach of the Rugby Football Union's Under 20s team. Nigel Redman
Nigel Charles Redman (born 16 August 1964) is a former professional rugby union player who played as a lock for Bath and the England national team. Born in Cardiff, Redman left school at the age of 15 to become an apprentice electrician. He began his rugby career aged 15 playing for Weston-super-Mare RFC. He made his England debut in November 1984 vs the Australia national rugby union team at Twickenham, losing 19-3.
