1995–96 Nemzeti Bajnokság I
The 1995–96 Nemzeti Bajnokság I, also known as NB I, was the 94th season of top-tier football in Hungary. The season started on 4 August 1995 and ended on 24 June 1996. Overview It was contested by 16 teams, and Ferencvárosi TC won the championship, becoming the first hungarian club of the '90's to successfully defend their national title. Although starting off the season with a shock 2-1 defeat in Debrecen, Ferencváros went on a 4-week winning streak in August, then on a 6-week winning streak between September and November. By the winter break, BVSC were top of the table, 3 points clear of FTC. In fact, BVSC handed the green and whites their second home defeat of the season in November, when they coincidentally ended Ferencváros' 6-game winning streak. BVSC's good form carried over through to the spring, however, the team from Zugló lost 4 games in May and June, including three back-to-back defeats. Nemzeti Bajnokság I
The Nemzeti Bajnokság (, ), also known as NB I or Fizz Liga after its title sponsor, OTP Bank's webshop subsidiary, is a professional association football league in Hungary and the highest level of the Hungarian football league system. Twelve teams compete in the league, playing each other three times, once at home, once away, and the third match is played at the stadium that the last match was not played at. At the end of the season, the top team enters the qualification rounds for the UEFA Champions League, while the runner-up and the third place, together with the winner of the Magyar Kupa enter the UEFA Conference League qualification rounds. The bottom two clubs are relegated to Nemzeti Bajnokság II, the second-level league, to be replaced by the winner and the runner up of the Nemzeti Bajnokság II, NB II. Újpest FC
Újpest Football Club () is a Hungary, Hungarian professional association football, football club based in Újpest, Budapest, that competes in Nemzeti Bajnokság I. Formed in 1885, Újpest reached the first division of the Hungarian League in Nemzeti Bajnokság I 1905, 1905 and has been relegated only once since then. The club has been a member of the first division for 108 consecutive years. Újpest have been Hungarian champions twenty times, in addition to winning the Magyar Kupa eleven times and the Szuperkupa three times. Kaposvári Rákóczi FC is a football club in Kaposvár, Hungary. Their home stadium is Rákóczi Stadion. The team is named after Francis II Rákóczi, a Transylvanian prince and national hero and they are also often referred to be the nickname ''Somogyiak'', referring to Somogy County, where the team plays. Békéscsaba 1912 Előre is a Hungarian association football, football club from Békéscsaba, Békés. The club was founded in 1912 as ''Előre Munkás Testedző Egyesület''. Promotion and relegation is used by sports leagues as a process where teams can move up and down among divisions in a league system, based on their performance over a season.
