The 1995–96 Gamma Ethniki was the 13th season since the official establishment of the third tier of Greek football in 1983. Panetolikos and Niki Volos were crowned champions in ''Southern'' and ''Northern'' Group respectively, thus winning promotion to Beta Ethniki. Pyrgos and Panserraikos also won promotion as a runners-up of the groups. Fostiras, Chaidari, Pannafpliakos, Chalkida, Chania, Charavgiakos, Apollon Krya Vrysi, Pontioi Veria, Kozani, Eordaikos, Velissario and Fokikos were relegated to Delta Ethniki. The Gamma Ethniki (, C National Division) is the Greek football league system, third highest football league in Greece. History The Gamma Ethniki began in 1965 as an amateur championship, while in 1983 it was changed to professional. Although not literally national (it is divided into ''North'' and ''South'' groups), Football League 2 is considered as a national division. On 3 August 2010, it was announced that the division had been renamed ''Football League 2''. From season 2013–14, the football League 2 was merged with the Delta Ethniki, fourth division championship (Delta Ethniki) and renamed Gamma Ethniki once more. The new third division is held in six groups, with the clubs divided on the basis of geographical criteria, while it returns in an amateur form. From season 2014–15 until season 2016–17 the league was held in four groups, with the clubs divided basis of geographical criteria. Aiolikos Football Club () is a Greek professional association football club, based in Mytilene. History The club was established in 1975 after a merger of two local teams – Atlantas and Apollon. The name Aiolikos was inspired by the Aeolians, the name by which the Greek inhabitants of Lesbos and nearby Aeolis, Anatolia, have been known since antiquity. Incidentally, there was also a Greek football club called Aiolikos that was based in Smyrna (İzmir), around 1890, which would often play matches against teams of visiting British sailors. With the Greco-Turkish War (1919–1922), many of the Greek inhabitants of the region emigrated to Lesbos, taking their sporting traditions and clubs with them. Panegialios ( (''Panegialios Gymnastics Club'', referring to Aigialeia, a subprefecture covering the northeastern part of Achaea) is a football club based in Aigio, Greece.
