1993–94 Ottawa Senators Season
The 1993–94 Ottawa Senators season was the National Hockey League (NHL) club's second season. It was an improvement by the club, as they finished with 13 more points than in the 1992–93 expansion season, as the club ended the season with a 14–61–9 record for 37 points. Even so, they had the worst record in hockey for the second consecutive year. Off-season On April 15, 1993, one day after the end of the 1992–93 season, general manager Mel Bridgman was fired. Randy Sexton became the general manager. Sexton would select Alexandre Daigle first overall in the 1993 NHL entry draft. On May 12, head coach Rick Bowness' contract was extended by three years. On August 17, 1993, the Bruce Firestone era ended. Firestone sells his shares to Rod Bryden and resigned as chairman and governor of the Senators. Eastern Conference (NHL)
The Eastern Conference () is one of two conferences in the National Hockey League (NHL) used to divide teams. Its counterpart is the Western Conference (NHL), Western Conference. History Originally named the Prince of Wales Conference (or Wales Conference for short), it was created in 1974–75 NHL season, 1974 when the NHL realigned its teams into two conferences and four divisions. Because the new conferences and divisions had little to do with North American geography, geographical references were removed. The Ottawa Senators are a professional ice hockey team based in Ottawa. The team is a member of the Atlantic Division (NHL), Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference (NHL), Eastern Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL). The Pittsburgh Penguins (colloquially known as the Pens) are a professional ice hockey team based in Pittsburgh. The Ottawa Senators (), officially the Ottawa Senators Hockey Club and colloquially known as the Sens, are a professional ice hockey team based in Ottawa. The Senators compete in the National Hockey League (NHL) as a member of the Atlantic Division in the Eastern Conference. Hartford Whalers
The Hartford Whalers were a professional ice hockey team based for most of its 25-year existence in Hartford, Connecticut. The club played in the World Hockey Association (WHA) from 1972 until 1979, and in the National Hockey League (NHL) from 1979 to 1997. Originally based in Boston, they were charter members of the WHA, known as the New England Whalers for all seven seasons. The Buffalo Sabres are a professional ice hockey team based in Buffalo, New York. Rod Bryden
Roderick M. Bryden (born March 13, 1941) is a Canadian businessman. He served as a prominent Ottawa business executive. He is best known as the former owner of the Ottawa Senators of the National Hockey League from 1992 until 2003. Biography Bryden was born in Port Elgin, New Brunswick. He obtained a B.A. Hon. Ec., from Mount Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick; an LLB, University of New Brunswick, Fredericton; and an LLM, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He taught law at the University of Saskatchewan as assistant law professor, from 1966 to 1969 before moving to Ontario, where he held a succession of positions in the Canadian federal government. Bruce Firestone
Bruce Murray Firestone (born 4 December 1951) of Ottawa, Ontario, is a Canadian businessman and writer. He is the founder of the modern-day Ottawa Senators NHL professional ice hockey club and former part-owner of the Ottawa Rough Riders CFL football club. Business career Dr. Firestone received his Bachelor of Civil Engineering degree from McGill University in Montreal, Canada; his Master of Engineering-Science (Traffic and Transportation) from the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia; and his PhD in Urban Economics from the Australian National University in Canberra, Australia. After graduating from the universities in Australia, Firestone joined the family firm Terrace Developments in the early 1980s.
