1993–94 Atlanta Hawks Season
The 1993–94 NBA season was the 45th season for the Atlanta Hawks in the National Basketball Association, and their 26th season in Atlanta, Georgia. During the off-season, the Hawks hired Hall of Famer Lenny Wilkens as their new head coach; Wilkens was a star guard for the franchise when it was based in St. Louis, Missouri in the 1960s, and was quickly moving up the all-time coaching wins list after successful runs with the Seattle SuperSonics and Cleveland Cavaliers. The team also signed free agents Craig Ehlo, and Andrew Lang. The Hawks got off to a slow start by losing four of their first five games of the regular season, but then posted a 14-game winning streak between November and December, which led to a 15–4 start to the season, and held a 34–13 record at the All-Star break. Lenny Wilkens
Leonard Randolph Wilkens (born October 28, 1937) is an American former professional basketball player and coach in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He has been inducted three times into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, first in 1989 as a player, as a coach in 1998, and in 2010 as part of the 1992 United States men's Olympic basketball team, 1992 United States Olympic "Dream Team" for which he was an assistant coach. In 1996, Wilkens was named to the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History, NBA 50th Anniversary Team, and in 2021 he was named to the NBA 75th Anniversary Team. In addition, in 2022 he was also named to the list of the 15 Greatest Coaches in NBA History, being the only person to be in both NBA 75th season celebration lists, as a player and as a coach. Andrew Lang (basketball)
Andrew Charles Lang Jr. (born June 28, 1966) is an American former professional basketball player who played twelve seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played college basketball for the Arkansas Razorbacks. Career After a four-year career at the University of Arkansas, Lang was selected by the Phoenix Suns in the second round (28th pick overall) of the 1988 NBA draft. He quickly developed a reputation as a proficient shotblocker. For years, he maintained the fourth all-time NBA record of one blocked shot every 9.12 minutes. 1994 NBA All-Star Game
The 1994 NBA All-Star Game was the 44th edition of the All-Star Game. The event was held in Minneapolis at Target Center, home of the Minnesota Timberwolves; the Timberwolves however, did not have any players participating in the game. It was broadcast by NBC for the fourth consecutive year. The 1993–94 season was Scottie Pippen's first season as the leader of the Chicago Bulls following the first retirement of Michael Jordan, and this All-Star Game turned out to be Pippen's peak shining moment, as he led the way with 29 points, 11 rebounds, and four steals en route to a 127–118 victory for his East All-Stars team while also being voted as the game's MVP. Jon Koncak
Jon Francis Koncak (born May 17, 1963) is an American former professional basketball player. A center from Southern Methodist University (SMU), Koncak was selected with the fifth pick in the 1985 NBA draft by the Atlanta Hawks. Koncak spent ten seasons with the Hawks (1985–1995), mainly in a reserve role, then concluded his career with the Orlando Magic. He retired in 1996 with career totals of 3,520 points and 3,856 rebounds. Koncak received a six-year, $13 million contract from the Hawks in 1989 – an unprecedented total for a reserve. Since he was a restricted free agent at the time, the Atlanta Hawks matched this offer from the Detroit Pistons. As a result, he earned the derisive nickname Jon Contract. Duane Ferrell
Duane Ferrell (born February 28, 1965) is an American retired professional basketball player. He played 11 seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for the Atlanta Hawks, Indiana Pacers and Golden State Warriors. He played college basketball for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, twice earning All-Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) honors. NBA All-Defensive Team
The NBA All-Defensive Team is an annual National Basketball Association (NBA) honor given since the 1968–69 NBA season to the best defensive players during the regular season. Kevin Alvin Willis (born September 6, 1962) is an American former professional basketball player mostly known for playing with the Atlanta Hawks in the National Basketball Association (NBA). The Eastern Conference is one of two conferences that make up the National Basketball Association (NBA), the other being the Western Conference. Both conferences consist of 15 teams organized into three divisions. The Eastern Conference comprises the Atlantic, Central, and Southeast Divisions. The Central Division is one of the three divisions in the Eastern Conference of the National Basketball Association (NBA).
