National Soccer League
The National Soccer League (NSL) was the top-level soccer league in Australia, run by Soccer Australia and later the Australian Soccer Association. The NSL, the A-League's predecessor, spanned 28 seasons from its inception in 1977 until its demise in 2004, when it was succeeded by the A-League competition run by Football Federation Australia, the successor to the Australian Soccer Association. During the history of the NSL the league was contested by a total of 42 teams; 41 based in Australia and one based in New Zealand. Seasons initially ran during the winter seasons, until 1989 when this was changed to the summer season. In 1984, the league was split into two conferences (Northern and Southern) to introduce more teams into the competition; the league returned to a single division in 1987. Parramatta FC
Parramatta Football Club, commonly known as Parramatta Melita Eagles or just Melita, are a semi-professional Australian soccer club based in South Granville, New South Wales. The club was established by Maltese migrants in 1956 and played several seasons in the National Soccer League, winning the NSL Cup twice. Later they were in the New South Wales Premier League, which the club won on six occasions. The club currently competes in the NSW League Two (formerly National Premier Leagues NSW 3). Falcons 2000 SC
Falcons 2000 Soccer Club (formerly Morwell Falcons, Gippsland Falcons and Eastern Pride) is an Australian semi-professional soccer club based in the regional Victorian city of Morwell in Latrobe Valley, Gippsland. The club currently participates in the Latrobe Valley Soccer League, currently rated as a Tier 9 league. As Morwell Falcons, the club achieved the rare feat of promotion to Tier 1 status in the Australian National Soccer League from what is described now as the Tier 9 Latrobe Valley Soccer League, via promotions in the Australian Association Football pyramid between 1973 and 1992 when promotion to the highest tier was available. Brisbane Strikers Football Club is an Australian semi-professional football club based in Brisbane, Queensland. Founded in 1991 as Brisbane United, the club competed in the National Soccer League until the 2003–04 season. Brisbane Strikers currently competes in the Football Queensland Premier League, with home matches played at Perry Park. Adelaide City FC
Adelaide City Football Club is a semi-professional soccer club based in Oakden, a north-eastern suburb of Adelaide. The club was a founding member of the now-defunct National Soccer League (NSL) and currently competes in the National Premier Leagues South Australia (NPL SA). The club was founded in 1946 by Adelaide's Italian community, who named the club Juventus. St George Stadium
Barton Park Sports Complex was a soccer stadium in Banksia, New South Wales, Australia. History The original St George Soccer Stadium opened in March 1978, with St George playing against South Melbourne in the National Soccer League. The ground occupied a part of Barton Park, next to Muddy Creek, a tributary of the Cooks River in Banksia. Over time use of the stadium declined, resulting in it falling into disrepair. In 2005, St George were controversially axed from the new look New South Wales Premier League, which the club tried to unsuccessfully overturn alongside Bonnyrigg White Eagles. Middle Park (stadium)
Middle Park Stadium (also known as the ''South Melbourne Hellas Soccer Stadium'') was a Association football, soccer venue located in Middle Park, Victoria, Australia. Built in 1959, it was used by South Melbourne FC as a home ground from their inception in 1959, as well as by Melbourne Hakoah until their demise in the 1980s. The ground was demolished in 1994 as part of works for the Melbourne Grand Prix Circuit. The ground held approximately 18,000 people, and consisted of a main stand with a capacity of 2,000, with open terracing around the rest of the ground.
