1991–92 Washington Bullets Season
The 1991–92 NBA season was the 31st season for the Washington Bullets in the National Basketball Association, and their 19th season in Washington, D.C.. During the off-season, the Bullets re-acquired Michael Adams from the Denver Nuggets, and signed free agents; David Wingate, and undrafted rookie small forward Larry Stewart. However, Bernard King would miss the entire regular season due to a right knee injury. To make matters worse, Hot Plate Williams was suspended for the entire season due to weight problems. The Bullets endured prolonged losing streaks in almost every month, as the team traded Tom Hammonds midway through the season to the Charlotte Hornets in exchange for Rex Chapman, who only played in the final game of the regular season due to a strained plantar fascia (left heel) injury. Wes Unseld
Westley Sissel Unseld Sr. (March 14, 1946June 2, 2020) was an American professional basketball player, coach and executive. He spent his entire National Basketball Association (NBA) career with the Baltimore/Capital/Washington Bullets. Unseld played college basketball for the Louisville Cardinals and was selected with the second overall pick by the Bullets in the 1968 NBA draft. Known as "The Incredible Hulk" and "The Oak Tree" because of his immense physical presence, Unseld was named the NBA Most Valuable Player and NBA Rookie of the Year during his rookie season and joined Wilt Chamberlain as the only two players in NBA history to accomplish the feat. He won an NBA championship with the Bullets in 1978 and the Finals MVP award to go with it. 1991–92 Charlotte Hornets Season
The 1991–92 NBA season was the fourth season for the Charlotte Hornets in the National Basketball Association. The Hornets won the NBA draft lottery, and selected power forward Larry Johnson from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas with the first overall pick in the 1991 NBA draft. Under new head coach Allan Bristow, the Hornets would get off to a slow start losing 8 of their first 9 games of the regular season. At mid-season, the team traded Rex Chapman to the Washington Bullets in exchange for Tom Hammonds, who was out for the remainder of the season due to a groin injury he sustained with the Bullets. LaBradford Smith
LaBradford Corvey Smith (born April 3, 1969) is an American former professional basketball player. Career Smith went to Bay City High School in Bay City, Texas. He played collegiately at the University of Louisville before being selected by the Washington Bullets in the 1st round (19th overall) of the 1991 NBA draft. Smith played in three NBA seasons from 1991 to 1994. His best year as a pro came during the 1992–93 season as a member of the Bullets, when he appeared in 69 games and averaged 9.3 ppg. 1992–93 Charlotte Hornets Season
The 1992–93 NBA season was the fifth season for the Charlotte Hornets in the National Basketball Association. The Hornets received the second overall pick in the 1992 NBA draft, and selected center Alonzo Mourning out of Georgetown University. The team also signed free agent David Wingate during the first month of the regular season, then later on traded J.R. Reid to the San Antonio Spurs in exchange for Sidney Green in December, and released Tom Hammonds to free agency as he later on signed with the Denver Nuggets. NBA All-Rookie Team
The NBA All-Rookie Team is an annual National Basketball Association (NBA) honor given since the 1962–63 NBA season to the top rookies during the regular season. Voting is conducted by the NBA head coaches who are not allowed to vote for players on their own team. The All-Rookie Team is generally composed of two five-man lineups: a first team and a second team. The players each receive two points for each first team vote and one point for each second team vote. Ledell Eackles
Ledell Eackles (born November 24, 1966) is an American former professional basketball player who was selected by the Washington Bullets in the second round (36th overall pick) of the 1988 NBA draft. Eackles played in seven NBA seasons for the Bullets, Miami Heat and Washington Wizards, averaging 10.8 ppg in his career. His best season came during 1989–90 when he appeared in 78 games for the Bullets averaging 13.5 points. Harvey Grant (born July 4, 1965) is an American former professional National Basketball Association (NBA) basketball player. He is the identical twin brother of Horace Grant, also a former NBA player. The NBA's Most Improved Player (MIP) is an annual National Basketball Association (NBA) award given to the player who has shown the most progress during the regular season compared to previous seasons. The winner is selected by a panel of sportswriters throughout the United States and Canada, each of whom casts a vote for first, second and third place selections. Each first-place vote is worth five points; each second-place vote is worth three points, and each third-place vote is worth one point. The player with the highest point total, regardless of the number of first-place votes, wins the award.
