1990–91 Utah Jazz Season
The 1990–91 NBA season was the 17th season for the Utah Jazz in the National Basketball Association, and their 12th season in Salt Lake City, Utah. During the off-season, the Jazz acquired All-Star guard Jeff Malone from the Sacramento Kings, who acquired him from the Washington Bullets in a three-team trade. Early into the regular season, the Jazz traveled overseas to Japan to play their first two games against the Phoenix Suns at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium. The Jazz got off to a 26–12 start to the regular season, and held a 30–16 record at the All-Star break. The team finished in second place in the Midwest Division with a 54–28 record, and earned the fifth seed in the Western Conference; they also made their eighth consecutive trip to the NBA playoffs. Jerry Sloan
Gerald Eugene Sloan (March 28, 1942 – May 22, 2020) was an American professional basketball player and coach. He played 11 seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA) before beginning a 30-year coaching career, 23 of which were spent as head coach of the Utah Jazz (1988–2011). NBA commissioner David Stern referred to Sloan as "one of the greatest and most respected coaches in NBA history". Sloan was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2009. After playing college basketball with the Evansville Purple Aces men's basketball, Evansville Purple Aces, Sloan was selected by the Baltimore Bullets (1963–1973), Baltimore Bullets with the fourth overall pick of the 1965 NBA draft. Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium
is a sporting complex in Sendagaya, Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan. Built in 1954 for the World Amateur wrestling, Wrestling Championship, it was also used as the venue for Gymnastics at the 1964 Summer Olympics, gymnastics at the 1964 Summer Olympics, and hosted the table tennis at the 2020 Summer Olympics, table tennis competition at the 2020 Summer Olympics. The gymnasium was rebuilt to a futuristic design created by Pritzker Prize winner Fumihiko Maki from 1986 to 1990. Michael Brown (born July 19, 1963) is an American retired professional basketball player and D-league head coach and NBA assistant coach. Mark Eaton
Mark Edward Eaton (January 24, 1957 – May 28, 2021) was an American professional basketball player who spent his entire career (1982–1993) with the Utah Jazz of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Named an NBA All-Star in 1989, he was twice voted the NBA Defensive Player of the Year (1985, 1989) and was a five-time member of the NBA All-Defensive Team. The Eaton became one of the best defensive centers in NBA history. He led the league in blocks four times and holds the NBA single-season records for blocks (456) and blocked shots per game average (5.6), as well as career blocked shots per game (3.5). Thurl Lee Bailey Sr. (born April 7, 1961) is an American former professional basketball player whose National Basketball Association (NBA) career spanned from 1983 to 1999 with the Utah Jazz and the Minnesota Timberwolves. NBA All-Defensive Team
The NBA All-Defensive Team is an annual National Basketball Association (NBA) honor given since the 1968–69 NBA season to the best defensive players during the regular season. The All-Defensive Team is generally composed of ten players in two five-man lineups, a first and a second team. Voting is conducted by a panel of 123 writers and broadcasters. Prior to the 2013–14 NBA season, voting was performed by the NBA head coaches, who were restricted from voting for players on their own team. John Stockton
John Houston Stockton (born March 26, 1962) is an American former professional basketball player. Regarded as one of the great point guards of all time, he spent his entire NBA career (1984–2003) with the Utah Jazz, and the team made the playoffs in all of his 19 seasons. In 1997 and 1998, together with his longtime teammate Karl Malone, Stockton led the Jazz to the franchise's only two NBA Finals appearances, both of which ended in losses to the Chicago Bulls.
