1989–90 FC Basel Season
The FC Basel, Fussball Club Basel 1893 1989–90 season was their 96th season since the club's foundation. Charles Röthlisberger was the club's chairman for the second consecutive year. FC Basel played their home games in the St. Jakob Stadium. Following their relegation in the 1987–88 season this was their second season in the second tier of Swiss football. Overview Pre-season For the third consecutive season Urs Siegenthaler was first team coach. After missing promotion the season before the club's repeated priority aim was to return to the top flight of Swiss football. Due to the poor results during October Urs Siegenthaler lost his position as first team coach and in November he was replaced by Ernst August Künnecke. AC Bellinzona
AC Bellinzona is a Swiss football club based in Bellinzona. It was founded in 1904, and won the Swiss Super League in 1948. René Spicher
René Spicher (born 6 March 1963) is a retired Swiss footballer who played in the late 1980s and early 1990s. He played as defender or as midfielder. Spicher first played two seasons with BSC Old Boys in the Nationalliga B, the second tier of Swiss football. In both seasons he played regularly in the teams starting 11. Spicher then joined FC Basel's first team for their 1989–90 season under head-coach Urs Siegenthaler, also in the second tier of Swiss football. After playing in two test matches, Spicher played his domestic league debut for his new club in the home game at the St. Jakob Stadium on 22 July 1989 as Basel won 2–0 against his old club Old Boys. Spicher scored his first goal for his club on 23 August in the away game as Basel played a 2–2 draw with Chênois. Jörg Heuting (born 11 December 1969) is a German former footballer who played in the late 1980s and early 1990s. He played mainly in the position of forward, but also as a midfielder. Heuting played his youth football with FC Concordia Basel and advanced to the first team in the summer 1988. A year later, he joined FC Basel's first team for their 1989–90 season and signed his first professional contract under head-coach Urs Siegenthaler in the second tier of Swiss football. After playing in four test games he made his debut in the Swiss Cup on 20 August 1989. He was substituted in for the injured Erni Maissen at half time and during the second half he scored two goals as Basel cruised to an 8–0 victory. Vittorio Gottardi (born 18 March 1967) is a Swiss former footballer who played in the late 1980s and early 1990s. He played mainly as a forward, but also as a midfielder. Gottardi first played for SC Dornach in the fourth tier of Swiss football. He joined FC Basel's first team for their 1989–90 season and signed his first professional contract under head coach Urs Siegenthaler in the second tier of Swiss football. After playing in three test games, Gottardi played his domestic league debut for his new club in the home game in the St. Jakob Stadium on 9 September 1989 as Basel won 2–0 against Grenchen. Gottardi scored his first goal for his club in the home game on 28 July 1990. But it was not enough to save the team, as Basel were defeated 1–2 by Locarno. Uwe Wassmer (born 22 January 1966) is a German former professional footballer who played as a striker during the 1980s and 1990s. Career Wassmer was born in Wehr, Baden-Württemberg. He began his career in Switzerland with FC Aarau in 1985 and spent three years with the club before joining Schalke 04 of Germany. After just one season with Schalke, he returned to Switzerland to play for FC Basel. He spent just one season at Basel, also, and went back to FC Aarau for the second time in his career where he was part of the side that won the Swiss national title in 1992–93. In 1993, he signed for SC Freiburg where he went on to play over 100 matches, scoring 30 goals.
