Hong Kong First Division League
The Hong Kong First Division League () is the second-highest division in the Hong Kong football league system. Established in 1908, it is the List of oldest football competitions, third oldest in Asia, after Calcutta and Bombay. Moreover, it is the oldest top-flight league system in Asia. The league was formerly the highest division in Hong Kong until the formation of the Hong Kong Premier League in 2014. Since 1908, a total of 29 clubs have been crowned List of Hong Kong football champions, champions of the Hong Kong football system. Happy Valley Athletic Association (), known simply as Happy Valley or HVAA, is a Hong Kong sports club which no longer competes in the Hong Kong football league system. They are historically one of the most successful football clubs in Hong Kong, having won the First Division six times and had consistently been in the top division, until they were relegated to the Second Division after the 2009–10 season. The 1987–88 Hong Kong First Division League season was the 77th since its establishment. Starting from this season, 3 points are awarded for a win in normal time. If a match ended in a draw after normal time, a penalty shootout would follow to determine the winner. Sing Tao Sports Club ( zh, t=星島體育會) was a Hong Kong football club which was dissolved after the 1998–99 season. The club was established by Aw Hoe ( zh, t=胡好), a director of ''Sing Tao Daily'' in 1940. The first team made their first appearance in the first division in the 1940–41 season. The team relegated to the second division twice, in 1962–63 and 1972–73 seasons respectively. The club turned professional in the 1968–69 season. They were promoted back to the first division again in 1987–88 and stayed until it was dissolved in 1999 by Sing Tao Limited, at that time a subsidiary of Sing Tao Holdings. Tsuen Wan (football Club)
Tsuen Wan is a football team which is now an associate member of HKFA which does not participate in any division of the existing league. It is different from the Tsuen Wan team which participates in the Hong Kong Third 'District' Division League. The team entered the formed Third Division League in 1969–70. In the next season, the team was promoted to Second Division and captured the title immediately. In 1971–72, the team played its first First Division League season. It is the second team which got promoted from Third Division to First Division after Yuen Long. However, it relegated to Second Division again immediately in that season (26 matches played: 7 wins, 7 draws, 12 losses, 21 points). In 1980–81, the team was promoted to First Division again by finishing a second place in the last season.
