1988–89 All-Ireland Senior Club Hurling Championship
The 1988–89 All-Ireland Senior Club Hurling Championship was the 19th staging of the All-Ireland Senior Club Hurling Championship, the Gaelic Athletic Association's premier inter-county club hurling tournament. The championship began on 25 September 1988 and ended on 17 March 1989. Midleton were the defending champions, however, they failed to qualify after losing in the Cork Senior Hurling Championship. On 17 March 1989, Buffer's Alley won the championship following a 2-12 to 0-12 defeat of O'Donovan Rossa in the All-Ireland final. This was their first All-Ireland title. Gary Kirby
Gary Kirby (born 12 January 1967 in Patrickswell, County Limerick, Republic of Ireland, Ireland) is an Irish hurling Manager (Gaelic games), manager and former player. He was named in a list of the "125 greatest stars of the GAA" in 2009, in which he was described as "one of the best players never to win an All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, All-Ireland senior medal". As a centre-forward, his playing career at club level was with Patrickswell and at inter-county level with Limerick GAA, Limerick. He was a key member of the latter team during the resurgence of the 1990s and collected two Munster Senior Hurling Championship, Munster titles, two National Hurling League titles and four GAA All Stars Awards, All-Star awards. In retirement from playing Kirby has become involved in team management at all levels. He was a selector with the Limerick senior hurling team under Richie Bennis from 2006 until 2008, a period which saw Limerick qualify for the All-Ireland final in 2007. ...
