The 1987–88 season was the 42nd season in Rijeka's history and their 26th season in the Yugoslav First League. Their 4th place finish in the 1986–87 season meant it was their 14th successive season playing in the Yugoslav First League. HNK Rijeka
Hrvatski nogometni klub Rijeka ( en, Croatian Football Club Rijeka), commonly referred to as NK Rijeka or simply Rijeka, is a Croatian professional football club from the city of Rijeka. HNK Rijeka compete in Croatia's top division, HT Prva liga, of which they have been members since its foundation in 1992. During the reconstruction of Stadion Kantrida, their traditional home ground has been Stadion Rujevica. Rijeka's traditional home colours are all white. Gradski vrt Stadium ( hr, Stadion Gradski vrt, lit=City Garden Stadium) is a multi-use stadium in Osijek, Croatia. It is located in the Gradski vrt neighbourhood in Novi grad city district. With a capacity of 17,061, it has been the home ground of two Croatian football clubs, NK Osijek and Fortuna VNO Osijek. History Construction started in 1949, but works were stopped several times. The first match played on the ground of Gradski Vrt was played between NK Osijek and FK Sloboda Tuzla on 7 September 1958. In 1980, the stadium was officially opened. In 1982, the record of stadium attendance was broken, on the football match between NK Osijek and Dinamo Zagreb. At that match, there were 40,000 attendants. The result was 1–2. Mladen Mladenović (born 13 September 1964) is a Croatian professional football manager and retired player who played as a midfielder. Playing career Club During his career he played for Rijeka, Zadar, Dinamo Zagreb and Hajduk Split in Croatia, CD Castellón in Spain, SV Austria Salzburg in Austria, and with Gamba Osaka in Japanese J.League. Robert Rubčić
Robert Rubčić (born 2 November 1963) is a Croatian retired footballer and manager. Playing career As a player, Rubčić played for HNK Rijeka for much of his career, collecting 184 league caps between 1982 and 1996. He was club's captain for 5 years, and he was also part of the unofficial Croatia national football team (since Croatia was still part of Yugoslavia at the time) in 1990. He debuted on 22 December 1990, in a friendly match against Romania, in Rijeka. He came on as a substitute in 86th minute instead of Zlatko Kranjčar. The result was 2-0 for Croatia.
