1987–88 Cypriot Second Division
The 1987–88 Cypriot Second Division was the 33rd season of the Cypriot second-level football league. Keravnos won their 2nd title. Format Fifteen teams participated in the 1987–88 Cypriot Second Division. All teams played against each other twice, once at their home and once away. The team with the most points at the end of the season were crowned champions. The first two teams were promoted to 1988–89 Cypriot First Division. The last three teams were relegated to the 1988–89 Cypriot Third Division. Cypriot Second Division
The Cypriot Second Division () is the second highest association football, football division of the Cypriot football league system. Administered by the Cyprus Football Association, it is contested by 16 teams, with the top three teams being Promotion and relegation, promoted to the Cypriot First Division and the last three teams being Promotion and relegation, relegated to the Cypriot Third Division. History The Cypriot Second Division started unofficially the 1934–35 football season as the second level of the Cypriot football (Cyprus Football Association founded in 1934). The competition consisted of teams that didn't participate in Cypriot First Division and the reserve teams of the Cypriot First Division clubs. In the reserve teams were allowed to participate only players that had no more than three caps with their team in First Division. The reserve teams won all the titles of the unofficial period. 1987–88 Cypriot Cup
The 1987–88 Cypriot Cup was the 46th edition of the Cypriot Cup. A total of 65 clubs entered the competition. It began on 7 November 1987 with the first preliminary round and concluded on 26 June 1988 with the final which was held at Tsirion Stadium. Omonia won their 8th Cypriot Cup trophy after beating AEL 2–1 in the final. Format In the 1987–88 Cypriot Cup, participated all the teams of the Cypriot First Division, the Cypriot Second Division, the Cypriot Third Division and 20 of the 42 teams of the Cypriot Fourth Division. The competition consisted of seven knock-out rounds. In the first preliminary round each tie was played as a single leg and was held at the home ground of one of the two teams, according to the draw results. Akritas Chlorakas () is a Cypriot football club based in Chloraka, Paphos. The club was founded in 1971 and currently plays in the Cypriot Second Division. Akritas' colours are green and white, and they play their home games at the Chloraka Municipal Stadium. The club is owned by Lithuanian investor Liutauras Varanavičius. Evagoras Paphos
Athlitikos Syllogos Evagoras Paphos () was a Cypriot football club based in the city of Paphos. Founded in 1961, they played in both the First and Second Divisions. They adopted their name from Evagoras Pallikarides, a poet from Paphos who was hanged by the British authorities, as he was an EOKA guerrilla, fighting for the independence of Cyprus. He was the youngest insurgent to be executed in Cyprus. The club's badge was a green shield with the figure of Evagoras Pallikarides's face in a circle. Dysfunction In contrast with the other Districts of Cyprus and other major towns, which had permanent teams in the First Division, Paphos did not have such a team as the two clubs of the town, Evagoras and APOP Paphos FC, could not remain in the First Division for many years.
