The 1987 Guarujá Open was a men's tennis tournament held in Guarujá in Brazil and played on outdoor hard courts. It was part of the 1987 Nabisco Grand Prix. It was the second edition of the tournament and took place from 26 January through 2 February 1987. Luiz Mattar won the singles title. Guarujá (; ) is a municipality in the São Paulo state of Brazil. It is part of the Metropolitan Region of the Baixada Santista. Luiz Mattar
Luiz Mattar (born August 18, 1963) is a former professional tennis player from Brazil. He played on the professional tour from 1985 to 1995, during which time he won seven top-level singles titles and five tour doubles titles. Mattar's career-high rankings were World No. 29 in singles (in 1989) and World No. 55 in doubles (in 1991). His career prize money totalled $1,493,136. With seven ATP singles titles in tournaments of the Association of Professional Tennis Players, he is the second Brazilian tennis player, after Gustavo Kuerten, with more ATP titles in his career. He also led the Brazilian Davis Cup team to their best result in history back in 1992 defeating Germany and Italy and reaching the semi-final of the World Group in the 1992 Davis Cup. Tore Meinecke
Tore Meinecke (born 21 July 1967) is a former professional tennis player from West Germany. Career As a junior, Meinecke won the Orange Bowl doubles champion 16-under in 1982 (partnering Boris Becker) and was runner-up at the European Junior Championships (w/Becker). He turned pro in 1983. During his professional career, Meinecke won two doubles titles. He achieved a career-high singles ranking of world No. 46 in May 1988 and a career-high doubles ranking of No. 46 in July 1987. In June 1989, Meinecke suffered a car crash in Clermont-Ferrand, France which put him in a coma for more than a month and forced him to retire from professional tennis at the age of 22.
