1986–87 Gamma Ethniki
The 1986–87 Gamma Ethniki was the fourth season since the official establishment of the third tier of Greek football in 1983. Chalkida and Edessaikos were crowned champions in ''Southern'' and ''Northern'' Group respectively, thus winning promotion to Beta Ethniki. Kallithea and Naoussa also won promotion as a runners-up of the groups. Fostiras, Patras, Thiva, Peramaikos, Thriamvos, Vyzas, Paniliakos, Anagennisi Giannitsa, Pyrsos Grevena, Achilleas Farsala, Panthrakikos, Langadas and Megas Alexandros Alexandria were relegated to Delta Ethniki. Gamma Ethniki
The Gamma Ethniki (, C National Division) is the Greek football league system, third highest football league in Greece. History The Gamma Ethniki began in 1965 as an amateur championship, while in 1983 it was changed to professional. Although not literally national (it is divided into ''North'' and ''South'' groups), Football League 2 is considered as a national division. On 3 August 2010, it was announced that the division had been renamed ''Football League 2''. From season 2013–14, the football League 2 was merged with the Delta Ethniki, fourth division championship (Delta Ethniki) and renamed Gamma Ethniki once more. The new third division is held in six groups, with the clubs divided on the basis of geographical criteria, while it returns in an amateur form. From season 2014–15 until season 2016–17 the league was held in four groups, with the clubs divided basis of geographical criteria. Panargiakos, Kerkyra, Rodos, Ergotelis, Aiolikos Aris Nikaia, Achaiki, Messiniakos, Agrotikos Asteras, Lamia, Panetolikos, Polykastro, Olympiakos Chalkida, Ethnikos Alexandroupoli, Anagennisi Neapoli, Pandramaikos, Anagennisi Kolindros, Alexandreia and Nestos Chrysoupoli were relegated to Delta Ethniki. Aiolikos Football Club () is a Greek professional association football club, based in Mytilene. History The club was established in 1975 after a merger of two local teams – Atlantas and Apollon. The name Aiolikos was inspired by the Aeolians, the name by which the Greek inhabitants of Lesbos and nearby Aeolis, Anatolia, have been known since antiquity. Incidentally, there was also a Greek football club called Aiolikos that was based in Smyrna (İzmir), around 1890, which would often play matches against teams of visiting British sailors. With the Greco-Turkish War (1919–1922), many of the Greek inhabitants of the region emigrated to Lesbos, taking their sporting traditions and clubs with them. Irodotos Football Club, short for ''Podosferikós Athlitikós Sýllogos Alikarnassoú Iródotos'' (, meaning ''Irodotos Football Sports Club of Halicarnassus'') and also simply known as Irodotos, is a Greek football club based in Nea Alikarnassos, Heraklion. The club is named after the ancient historian Herodotus, descended from Halicarnassus, Asia Minor, whose bust is also used as the club logo.
