1986–87 American Indoor Soccer Association Season
The 1986–87 American Indoor Soccer Association season was the third season of the league. The Columbus Capitals and Kalamazoo Kangaroos did not return after the 1985–86 season. Four teams, including former NASL stalwarts, Tampa Bay Rowdies, joined the league in 1986–87. The Fort Wayne Flames, Memphis Storm and Toledo Pride were all newly formed expansion teams. The addition of Tampa Bay in particular, and Memphis to a lesser degree, marked the AISA's first clubs outside of the Midwest. Rudy Pikuzinski of Canton won the league scoring title en route to his first of three straight MVP awards, while Memphis boss Terry Nicholl took home Coach of the Year honors. Just as in previous AISA seasons, Canton and Louisville proved to be the class of the league and faced each other in the finals for a third straight year. Louisville Gardens is a multi-purpose, 6,000-seat arena, in Louisville, Kentucky, that opened in 1905, as the Jefferson County Armory. Tony Carbognani
Antonio "Toni" Carbognani (born 5 November 1953) is an Argentine retired professional footballer who played as a midfielder for the New York Cosmos and the Memphis Rogues in the NASL. He later managed the Memphis Express of the USL Premier Development League. Player Carbognani started his playing career with San Telmo in 1975. In 1976, he was sold to Barcelona Sporting Club of Ecuador. In 1979, he was signed by New York Cosmos of the North American Soccer League. In the fall of 1979, the Cosmos sent him to the Memphis Rogues in time for the NASL indoor season. He then played the 1980 outdoor season for the Rogues. Chris Hellenkamp
Chris Hellenkamp (born June 6, 1961) is an American retired soccer midfielder who played professionally in the North American Soccer League and Major Indoor Soccer League. Career Hellenkamp attended Seattle Pacific University where he played on the men's soccer team in 1979 and 1980. On December 17, 1980, the Portland Timbers selected Hellenkamp in the first round (ninth overall) of the North American Soccer League draft. He played for the Timbers for two years, including two outdoor and one indoor season. In 1982, he moved to the San Diego Sockers for the 1982–83 Major Indoor Soccer League season. Peter Roe (soccer)
Peter Roe (born 23 September 1955 in Manchester, England) is a Canadian international soccer player who spent twelve seasons in the North American Soccer League and two in the Major Indoor Soccer League. He also earned nine caps, scoring one goal, with the Canadian national soccer team between 1974 and 1983. Professional Born in England, Roe moved to Bramalea, Ontario with his family when he was eleven. Tom Alioto (born May 20, 1958, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin) is a retired American soccer defender who played in the North American Soccer League, Major Indoor Soccer League and American Indoor Soccer Association. Player Both Tom Alioto and his twin brother Tim both played extensively as youth players with the Milwaukee Bavarians. Alioto also played soccer for Madison University High School. Gregg Willin
Gregg Willin is a retired American soccer defender who played professionally in the second and third American Soccer League and Major Indoor Soccer League. Willin grew up in Evergreen Park, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. In the spring of 1982, he turned professional out of high school with the Georgia Generals of the second American Soccer League. On September 15, 1982, Willin moved indoors with the Wichita Wings of the Major Indoor Soccer League, going to the playoff semifinals in 1983 and 1984. In 1984, Willin spent the summer season with the Jacksonville Tea Men of the United Soccer League. The Wings released Willin 1985. Arnie Mausser
Arnold "Arnie" Mausser (born February 28, 1954) is an American former soccer goalkeeper who played with eight different NASL teams from 1975 to 1984. He is a member of the National Soccer Hall of Fame. Mausser may be considered one of the finest goalkeepers the United States has ever produced. He is known as the trailblazer for future U.S. goalkeepers such as Kasey Keller, Tim Howard, and Brad Friedel. Victor Petroni
Victor Petroni (born March 3, 1959) is a Canadian retired soccer goalkeeper who played professionally in the Major Indoor Soccer League and American Indoor Soccer Association. Playing career In 1980, Petroni signed with the Buffalo Stallions of the Major Indoor Soccer League. In the summer of 1980 he played in the National Soccer League with the Buffalo Blazers. In 1981, he moved to the Kansas City Comets. He played two seasons with Kansas City before joining the Phoenix Pride.
