1985–86 Nationalliga A
Statistics of the Swiss National League in the 1985–86 football season, both Nationalliga A and Nationalliga B. This was the 89th season of top-tier Swiss football. Overview There were 32 member clubs in the Swiss Football Association (ASF/SFV), divided into two tiers of 16 teams each. The top tier was named Nationalliga A (NLA) and the second tier was named Nationalliga B (NLB). In both divisions the teams played a double round-robin to decide their table positions. The Swiss champions would qualify for the 1986–87 European Cup, the runners-up and third placed team would qualify for the 1986–87 UEFA Cup. The last two placed teams in the NLA would be directly relegated to the NLB for the following season. The top two placed teams in the NLB would be promoted to the top tier. Swiss Super League
The Super League (also known as the Credit Suisse Super League for sponsorship reasons) is a professional association football league in Switzerland and the highest level of the Swiss football league system. It has been played in its current format since the 2003–04 season. As of March 2024, the Swiss Super League is ranked 21st in Europe according to UEFA's ranking of league coefficients, which is based upon Swiss team performances in European competitions. 1986–87 UEFA Cup
The 1986–87 UEFA Cup was the 16th season of the UEFA Cup, the third-tier club football competition organised by the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA). The final was played over two legs at the Ullevi, Gothenburg, Sweden, and at Tannadice Park, Dundee, Scotland. The competition was won by IFK Göteborg of Sweden, who defeated Dundee United of Scotland by an aggregate result of 2–1 to claim their second title. This is the second and last European tournament won by a Swedish team, five years after Göteborg's first UEFA Cup conquest in 1982, as well as the last European final played by a Swedish team, while Dundee United became the last team from Scotland to reach a European final until 2003. Vevey-Sports, formerly FC Vevey United is a Swiss football club based in Vevey, Vaud canton. The club currently play in Promotion League, the third tier of Swiss football. FC Wettingen
FC Wettingen was a Swiss football club from Wettingen, Switzerland. It was founded in 1931, but due to financial problems they went bankrupt in 1993. In the same year it was refounded as ''FC Wettingen 93''. In the 2012/13 season, the name was changed back to ''FC Wettingen''. They play their home games at Stadion Altenburg. History FC Wettingen spent the first few decades of their life bobbing around the lower echelons of the Swiss leagues until finally in 1969 they made it to the National League B. The next season they gained promotion and in the 1969/70 season they played in the Swiss Super League. FC Aarau is a Swiss professional football club based in Aarau. Founded in 1902, the club competes in the Swiss Challenge League, the second tier of Swiss football after being relegated from the Swiss Super League. History FC Aarau was formed on 26 May 1902 by workers from a local brewery. The early days of the club were a success and they won the Swiss championship in 1911–12 and then again in 1913–14.
