The 1985–86 Honduran Liga Nacional season was the 20th edition of the Liga Nacional de Fútbol Profesional de Honduras, Honduran Liga Nacional. The format of the tournament consisted of two groups of five followed by a 4-team playoff round. C.D. Marathón won the title after winning the final round and qualified to the 1986 CONCACAF Champions' Cup along with F.C. Motagua, C.D. Liga Nacional de Fútbol Profesional de Honduras, known as Liga Hondubet for sponsorship reasons (''Honduran National Professional Football League'') is the highest division of domestic Association football, football in Honduras. The league season is divided into Apertura and Clausura, Opening (autumn) and Closing (spring). One team is relegated to the Honduran Liga Nacional de Ascenso, Liga de Ascenso (the team with fewest points in Opening and Closing) and one team is promoted from Honduran Liga Nacional de Ascenso, Liga de Ascenso. El Clásico Nacional ("National Classic") is a Honduran football match played between Olimpia and Marathón. Raúl Martínez Sambulá
Raúl Martínez Sambulá (born 14 March 1963) is a former Honduran professional football player, who made his name with the national team in the early 1990s. Club career Martínez Sambulá started his career at Olimpia and then moved abroad for a lengthy spell at Mexican side UA Tamaulipas. He returned to Honduras in 1994 to finish his career at Victoria. In April 1986 he helped set Francisco Adelmo Herrera's record of 7 successive clean sheets when he scored in the 30th minute of Herrera's 8th game. Nicolás Suazo
Nicolás Suazo Velásquez (born 9 January 1965) is a Honduran retired professional footballer who played as a striker. Club career Nicknamed ''Nicogol'' because of his prolific goalscoring, Suazo played in Honduras for Independiente, Marathón and Victoria, in Costa Rica for Herediano alongside compatriot Danilo Galindo and for Comunicaciones and USAC in Guatemala. He scored 48 goals in total in the Honduran National League and still is the most prolific Honduran in de Costa Rican league with 46. International career Suazo made his debut for Honduras in a May 1991 UNCAF Nations Cup match against Panama and has earned a total of 51 caps, scoring 28 goals. Gilberto Leonel Machado García (born 23 March 1962) is a retired Honduran footballer who played as a midfielder for Marathón, Olimpia, and Deportes Progreseño in Liga Nacional de Fútbol Profesional de Honduras. He is the current manager of Honduran second division side Sula de La Lima. Club career Born in San Pedro Sula, Machado played club football in Honduras. He made his debut for Marathón on 29 July 1979 against Atlético Portuario and scored his first goal on 22 February 1981 against Real España. Machado was the Honduran league's top goal-scorer in 1987, scoring 19 goals for Marathon. He is also Marathon's all-time leading goal-scorer, scoring 78 goals from 1979 to 1991.
