New Jersey Devils
The New Jersey Devils are a professional ice hockey team based in Newark, New Jersey. The Devils compete in the National Hockey League (NHL) as a member of the Metropolitan Division in the Eastern Conference (NHL), Eastern Conference. 1983–84 Hartford Whalers Season
The 1983–84 Hartford Whalers season was the Whalers' fifth season in the National Hockey League. Hartford failed to qualify for the post-season for the fourth consecutive season. The Whalers finished the season with a 28–42–10 record, earning 66 points, which was their highest point total since the 1979–80 season. The club finished nine points behind the fourth place Montreal Canadiens for the final playoff position in the Adams Division. Offseason In early May, the Whalers hired Emile Francis as president and general manager of the club. As a player, Francis was a goaltender who played with the Chicago Black Hawks and the New York Rangers from 1946 to 1952, in which he had a record of 32-52-10 and a 3.75 GAA in 95 games. Hartford Whalers
The Hartford Whalers were a professional ice hockey team based for most of its 25-year existence in Hartford, Connecticut. The club played in the World Hockey Association (WHA) from 1972 until 1979, and in the National Hockey League (NHL) from 1979 to 1997. Originally based in Boston, they were charter members of the WHA, known as the New England Whalers for all seven seasons. 1983–84 Quebec Nordiques Season
The 1983–84 Quebec Nordiques season was the Nordiques fifth season in the National Hockey League. In the 1982–83 season, Quebec won a club record 34 games, and finished fourth in the Adams Division earning 80 points, making the post-season for the third consecutive season. The Nordiques would fall to the Montreal Canadiens in six games in the Adams Division Finals. Off-season During the off-season, Quebec named defenseman Mario Marois as their new team captain. The club played the 1982–83 season with no captain. Marois, an eight-year NHL veteran, had been with the Nordiques since the 1980–81 season.
