Gene Shue
Eugene William Shue (December 18, 1931 – April 3, 2022) was an American professional basketball player and coach in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Shue was one of the top guards of the early days of the NBA and an influential figure in the development of basketball. He is credited with having invented the "spin move" while being an early harbinger of other plays and strategies. Shue was an NBA All-Star in five consecutive times from 1958 to 1962. After his successful playing career, he became a long-serving coach for three franchises. With his first tenure with the Baltimore Bullets, Shue coached the team for seven seasons and won four division championships with five playoff berths, with one trip to the NBA Finals in 1971. He resigned at the end of the 1972-73 season and soon became coach of the Philadelphia 76ers, where he helped the team rise in victories to where they won 50 games and reached the NBA Finals in 1977, where they lost in a six-game series to Portlan ...

Donald Carroll (basketball)
Donald Carroll (12 December 1940 – 30 December 2010) was an American author, editor, poet, columnist and humourist. Early life Born in Dallas, Texas, in 1940, he was educated at the University of Texas, where he founded the poetry quarterly ''Quagga'' – which published the work of Richard Wilbur, e.e. cummings, Lawrence Ferlinghetti and Robert Creeley, among others – and at Trinity College Dublin, where he founded ''The Dubliner'', a literary magazine, and edited the anthology, ''New Poets of Ireland''. While at Trinity his own poems were widely published and earned an invitation from T.S. Eliot to visit him in London. Editor and publisher Carroll moved to London in 1964 and after a brief spell as a literary agent, during which he met Quentin Crisp and worked closely with him in producing '' The Naked Civil Servant'', he set up his own publishing house in 1966. 1983–84 Houston Rockets Season
The 1983–84 Houston Rockets season featured the NBA debut of Ralph Sampson, whom the Rockets had selected as the first pick of the 1983 NBA draft. Under head coach Bill Fitch, the team finished with a 29–53 record, although Sampson won the NBA Rookie of the Year Award. The team has been cited as an example of a " tanking", by deciding to play more bench players after starting the season with a 20–26 record, in order to fall in the standings and get higher in the draft order for the following season. The Rockets finished last in the Western Conference and later won a coin flip that gave them the first section in the 1984 NBA draft, with which they selected Hakeem Olajuwon. 1983–84 Detroit Pistons Season
The 1983–84 NBA season was the Detroit Pistons' 36th season in the NBA and 27th season in the city of Detroit. The team played at the Pontiac Silverdome in suburban Pontiac, Michigan. During the 1984 playoffs against the New York Knicks, the Silverdome had a venue conflict that forced the team to play their last playoff game in Detroit proper at the Detroit Red Wings' home, Joe Louis Arena, in the fifth and deciding game of the round. The team would play a number of home games, both regular season and post-season, at the venue over the next few seasons (due to the roof collapsing) before eventually getting an arena of their own four years later. New coach Chuck Daly made an immediate impact on the team, leading the Pistons to their first winning season and post-season berth since the 1976-77 season. 1983–84 Dallas Mavericks Season
The 1983–84 NBA season was the Mavericks' 4th season in the NBA. The season is notable seeing the Mavericks make the postseason for the first time in franchise history. However, after defeating the Seattle SuperSonics in the opening round, Dallas was outmatched by an experienced Los Angeles Lakers squad as they fell in five games.
