	1983–84 Gamma Ethniki The 1983–84 Gamma Ethniki was the first and inaugural season since the official establishment of the third tier of Greek football in 1983. Aiolikos and Almopos Aridea were crowned champions in ''Southern'' and ''Northern'' groups, respectively, thus winning promotion to Beta Ethniki. Athinaikos and Trikala also won promotion as a runners-up of the groups. Pannafpliakos, Atromitos Piraeus, Ilisiakos, Achaiki, Panthrakikos, Pontioi Kozani and Toxotis Volos were relegated to Delta Ethniki. 	Gamma Ethniki The Gamma Ethniki (, C National Division) is the Greek football league system, third highest football league in Greece. History The Gamma Ethniki began in 1965 as an amateur championship, while in 1983 it was changed to professional. Although not literally national (it is divided into ''North'' and ''South'' groups), Football League 2 is considered as a national division. On 3 August 2010, it was announced that the division had been renamed ''Football League 2''. From season 2013–14, the football League 2 was merged with the Delta Ethniki, fourth division championship (Delta Ethniki) and renamed Gamma Ethniki once more. The new third division is held in six groups, with the clubs divided on the basis of geographical criteria, while it returns in an amateur form. From season 2014–15 until season 2016–17 the league was held in four groups, with the clubs divided basis of geographical criteria. 	Irodotos FC Irodotos Football Club, short for ''Podosferikós Athlitikós Sýllogos Alikarnassoú Iródotos'' (, meaning ''Irodotos Football Sports Club of Halicarnassus'') and also simply known as Irodotos, is a Greek football club based in Nea Alikarnassos, Heraklion. The club is named after the ancient historian Herodotus, descended from Halicarnassus, Asia Minor, whose bust is also used as the club logo. Irodotos was established in 1932 by refugees from Asia Minor (and specifically the site of modern Bodrum, then still called Halicarnassus), who were displaced following the Greco-Turkish War in 1922. By acclamation, Irodotos is considered the third most successful club in Heraklion in terms of achievements, due to its consistent presence in the Second and Third national divisions, but has maintained a considerable fan base, and a longstanding rivalry with local Superleague side OFI, despite the fact the two haven't met in national competitions for almost 30 years.
