The Besta deild karla () is a professional association football league in Iceland and the highest level of the Icelandic football league system. The competition was founded in 1912 as the Icelandic Championship. Because of the harsh winters in Iceland, it is generally played in the spring and summer (April to September). It is governed by the Football Association of Iceland (KSÍ) and has 12 teams. By the end of the 2022–23 season, UEFA ranked the league No. 48 in Europe. From 27 April 2009 to 2022, the league had an active agreement on the league's name rights with Ölgerðin, the Icelandic franchisee for Pepsi. From the 2019 season to the end of the 2021 season, the league was popularly referred to as Pepsi Max deildin (The Pepsi Max League). Íþróttabandalag Vestmannaeyja (, ), commonly known as ÍBV, is an Icelandic multi-sports district association from Vestmannaeyjar off the south coast of Iceland. It was founded in 1903 as Knattspyrnufélag Vestmannaeyja by Björgúlfur Ólafsson, military doctor for the Dutch army. It was soon renamed to Knattspyrnufélag Vestmannaeyja (KV) and then to Íþróttabandalag Vestmannaeyja (ÍBV) héraðssamband in 1945. ÍBV played as KV in the first Úrvalsdeild, Icelandic first league tournament in 1912 Úrvalsdeild, 1912. 1984–85 European Cup Winners' Cup
The 1984–85 season of the European Cup Winners' Cup was won by Everton in the final against Rapid Wien. Everton also won the English Football League that season and would therefore have entered the European Cup the following season. However, Everton were unable to do so due to the newly enacted 5-year ban on English clubs participating in European competitions as a consequence of the Heysel stadium disaster in May of the same year. Everton's 1985 trophy win was therefore the last English club success in European competition until Manchester United won this competition again in 1991. This would also be the last time Everton participated in European competition until the 1995–96 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup, following its 1994–95 FA Cup win. The 1984–85 UEFA Cup was the 14th season of the UEFA Cup, the third-tier club football competition organised by the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA). The final was played over two legs at the Sóstói Stadion, Székesfehérvár, Hungary, and at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, Madrid, Spain. The competition was won by Real Madrid of Spain, who defeated Videoton of Hungary by an aggregate result of 3–1 to claim their first UEFA Cup title. Real Madrid became the first Spanish side to win the UEFA Cup since its foundation in 1971. Three Spanish teams had won the predecessor tournament, the Inter-Cities Fairs' Cup, but UEFA does not recognise it as an official competition within its records. Íþróttabandalag Ísafjarðar (, ), commonly known as ÍBÍ, was a sports union in Ísafjörður, Iceland, best known for its football teams. In 2000, ÍBÍ merged with Héraðssamband Vestur-Ísfirðinga to form Héraðssamband Vestfirðinga. Knattspyrnudeild Keflavíkur (, ) is an Icelandic football team, commonly known as Keflavík. Knattspyrnufélagið Víkingur (, ) , commonly referred to as Víkingur Reykjavík (to distinguish them from Víkingur Ólafsvík) and internationally known as Vikingur F.C., is a professional Icelandic sports club based in the Fossvogur neighbourhood of Reykjavík. It is one of the oldest sports clubs in Iceland, founded on 21 April 1908. Originally founded as a football club, it is now a multi-sport club that also operates divisions in handball, tennis, table tennis, karate and skiing. All sports include both male and female teams.
