1982–83 Lamar Cardinals Basketball Team
The 1982–83 Lamar Cardinals basketball team represented Lamar University during the 1982–83 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Cardinals were led by third-year head coach Pat Foster and played their home games at the Beaumont Civic Center in Beaumont, Texas as members of the Southland Conference. The Cardinals won the regular season conference championship and the 1983 Southland Conference men's basketball tournament. They received an automatic invitation to the 1983 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament where they defeated 1982–83 Alabama Crimson Tide men's basketball team, Alabama in the first round and lost to 1982–83 Villanova Wildcats men's basketball team, Villanova in the second round. Pat Foster
Pat Foster (born June 22, 1939) is an American former college basketball coach. He served as the head men's basketball coach at Lamar University (1980–1986), University of Houston (1986–1993), and the University of Nevada, Reno (1993–1999), compiling a career record of 366–203. Foster also served as athletic director at Lamar from 1983 to 1985. At Houston, he succeeded Guy Lewis. He then left Houston to coach Nevada before retiring. The Super Pit
The UNT Coliseum is a 9,797-seat multi-purpose arena located in Denton, Texas, United States, built in 1973. While the arena's formal name is the UNT Coliseum, the building is more commonly referred to as the Super Pit, a nickname derived from its proximity to the former home of the Mean Green basketball teams, the Ken Bahnsen Gym, nicknamed the ''Snake Pit''. The Convocation Center is a 4,080-seat multi-purpose arena in San Antonio, Texas, US, on the Main Campus of the University of Texas at San Antonio. ExtraMile Arena (formerly BSU Pavilion and Taco Bell Arena) is a multi-purpose indoor arena in the western United States, on the campus of Boise State University in Boise, Idaho.
