1982–83 FIS Cross-Country World Cup
The 1982–83 FIS Cross-Country World Cup was the 2nd official World Cup season in cross-country skiing for men and ladies. The World Cup started in Val di Sole, Italy on 12 December 1982 and finished in Labrador City, Canada on 27 March 1983. Alexander Zavyalov of the Soviet Union won the overall men's cup, and Marja-Liisa Hämäläinen of Finland won the women's. Reit Im Winkl
Reit im Winkl is a small village (locally known as a snow-magnet ) located on the German/Austrian border in the southeastern part of Bavaria, Germany in the Traunstein district, and was previously an immigration and customs control point (prior to the formation of the Schengen Zone). It is situated south of Chiemsee and southwest of Ruhpolding - home of the Biathlon World Cup - in the Bavarian Alps and facing towards Tyrol. The village lies next to the Austrian states Tyrol and Salzburg. Kössen in Tyrol is the next village on the river Lofer, before it joins the confluence of the river Tiroler Achen. Thomas Wassberg
Thomas Lars Wassberg (born 27 March 1956) is a Swedish former cross-country skier. A fast skating style – push for every leg – is still called "Wassberg" after him in several countries. Wassberg's skiing idols when growing up were Sixten Jernberg and Oddvar Brå. He has described his mental strength and physical fitness as his greatest abilities as a skier, with his main weakness being a lack of sprinting ability. Wassberg won four Olympic gold medals: in 15 km (1980), 50 km (1984), and the 4 × 10 km relay (1984, 1988), and served as the Olympic flag bearer for Sweden in 1988. At the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships, he earned three golds (50 km: 1982, 30 km: 1987, and 4 × 10 km relay: 1987), three silvers (15 km: 1985, 1987; 50 km (1987), and one bronze (4 × 10 km relay: 1985). Falun
Falun () is a city and the seat of Falun Municipality in Dalarna County, Sweden, with 37,291 inhabitants in 2010. It is also the capital of Dalarna County. Falun forms, together with Borlänge, a metropolitan area with just over 100,000 inhabitants. Falun was originally famous for its copper mine, and is today an important service and industrial city even though the mine is closed (since 1992). Faluån is a river, flowing through the city, separating it into two sides. Falu copper mine is located on one of the sides which during many centuries was one of Sweden's main business. This side of the river was usually called "the mining side", where not many plants grew due to the toxic smoke which contaminated the soil. On the other side of the river, where the smoke did not reach, set many large villas, which made this side to be called "the delightful side". Per Knut Aaland
Per Knut Aaland (born 5 September 1954 in Norway) is a retired Norwegian cross-country skier. He was born in Randabygda, lived in Hornindal and represented the sports club Hardbagg IL. He won a silver medal in the 4 × 10 km relay at the 1980 Olympic Games in Lake Placid, New York. He also finished sixth in the 50 km race at the 1976 Olympic Games and sixteenth in the 30 km race at the 1980 Olympic Games. His best career finish was second in three World Cup events. Jan Petter Lindvall (born March 18, 1950 in Kåfjord) is a Norwegian retired cross-country skier who competed from 1982 to 1984. He finished fifth in the 50 km event at the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo. Lindvall finished 11th in the 50 km event at the 1982 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Oslo. Kavgolovo
Toksovo (russian: То́ксово; fi, Toksova) is an urban locality (an urban-type settlement) in Vsevolozhsky District of Leningrad Oblast, Russia, located to the north of St. Petersburg on the Karelian Isthmus. It is served by two neighboring stations of the Saint Petersburg-Khiytola railroad: Toksovo (constructed in 1917) and Kavgolovo (1929) (which serves a popular ski resort). Lars Erik Eriksen (born 29 December 1954) is a retired Norwegian cross-country skier who competed in multiple events at the 1980 and 1984 Olympics and 1978 and 1982 World Championships. He had his best achievements in the 4 × 10 km relay, winning a bronze in 1978, a silver in 1980 and a gold in 1982, and finishing in fourth place at the 1984 Olympic Games. Mikhail Talgatovich Devyatyarov (russian: Михаи́л Талга́тович Девятья́ров; born 25 February 1959 in Chusovoy) is a former Soviet/Russian cross-country skier who competed from 1982 to 1992, training at Armed Forces sports society in Perm. Juha Iisakki Mieto (born 20 November 1949) is a Finnish former cross-country skier, who was born in Kurikka. He competed in the 1972, 1976, 1980 and 1984 Olympics and won five medals, including a gold medal in the 4 × 10 km relay in 1976. He also placed fourth three times, losing the 15 km bronze medal in 1972 by 0.06 seconds.
