The 1982–83 English Hockey League season took place from September 1982 until May 1983. The principal event for men was the National Inter League Championship which brought together the winners of their respective regional leagues. The Men's championship was won by Slough The Men's Cup was won by Neston and the Women's Cup was won by Slough. Men's England Hockey League
The Men's England Hockey League is a field hockey league organised by England Hockey that features men's teams from England and Wales. Format Regular season There are 62 teams in the league, the top tier consists of a Premier Division of twelve teams. Below this is tier two, which consists of two ten-team Division One regional teams (North and South). The third tier consists of three regional conferences North, West, and East, all consisting of ten teams. The teams play each other home and away during an 18 week season from September to April. The league has a winter break between December and February. The winners of the Premier Division regular season automatically qualify to play in the Euro Hockey League. Harborne Hockey Club
Harborne Hockey Club is a field hockey club that is based in Harborne, Birmingham. The club was founded in 1903. The club plays fixtures at the Eastern Road pitch of the King Edward's School, Birmingham (primarily men's fixtures) and the pitches of the King Edward VI High School for Girls (primarily women's fixtures). Matches are also held at the King Edward VI Five Ways School. Teams The club runs multiple teams of all ages, including six men's teams with the first XI playing in the Men's England Hockey League Division One North (as of 2023/24). There are six women's teams with the first XI playing in the Midlands Hockey League. Additionally there are six junior teams, two vets teams and one mixed team. Ealing Hockey Club is a field hockey club based at Perivale Lane in Greenford and at St.Augustine's Prior School, W5, Middlesex The original club was formed in 1884 and gained notable success in the 1980s when the women's team won three successive National Clubs Competitions during the 1986–87 England Hockey League season, 1987–88 England Hockey League season and 1988–89 England Hockey League season. Oakham School
Oakham School is a public school (English fee-charging boarding and day school) in Oakham, Rutland, England. The school was founded in 1584 by Archdeacon Robert Johnson, along with Uppingham School, a few miles away. They share a common badge design (and a strong rivalry), but while Uppingham's colours tend towards blue and white, Oakham's are black and red. The British Newspaper Archive website provides access to searchable digitized archives of British and Irish newspapers. It was launched in November 2011. History The British Library's Newspapers section was based in Colindale in north London until 2013, and is now divided between the St Pancras and Boston Spa sites. Paul Barber (field Hockey)
Paul Jason Barber (born 21 May 1955) is an Englishformer field hockey player, who won a gold medal at the 1988 Summer Olympics. Biography Barber was born in Peterborough, England, and was educated at King's School, Peterborough and Monkton Combe School in Bath. He played club hockey for his home town club, Peterborough Town Hockey Club and was the Peterborough Adveritser's sportsman of the year in 1977 and won a bronze medal with England at the 1978 European Cup and played at the 1978 Men's Hockey World Cup.. However, he signed to play for Slough Hockey Club in the Men's England Hockey League in 1979. He was selected for the Great Britain team for 1980 Olympic Games but missed out due to the boycott of the Moscow Games. He did however play in the 1982 Men's Hockey World Cup and win a bronze medal at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.
