1981–82 QMJHL Season
The 1981–82 QMJHL season was the List of QMJHL seasons, 13th Season (sports), season in the history of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. The defending Memorial Cup and league champions, the Cornwall Royals left the QMJHL in the offseason, transferring to the Ontario Hockey League. The league was reduced to nine teams, and dissolved divisions. The remaining teams played a shortened schedule of 64 games each in the regular season. That was balanced by an extended first round playoff schedule. The top eight teams in the regular season participated in a double Round-robin tournament, round-robin of 14 games per team, followed by playdowns. The Sherbrooke Castors finished first overall in the regular season, winning the Jean Rougeau Trophy, and won their third President's Cup (QMJHL), President's Cup, defeating the Trois-Rivières Draveurs in the finals. Chicoutimi Saguenéens
The Chicoutimi Saguenéens are a Canadian junior ice hockey team which plays in the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). The team is based in Chicoutimi, Quebec, and owned by the City of Saguenay. The team plays its home games at the Centre Georges-Vézina. History The Chicoutimi Saguenéens franchise was granted for the 1973–74 season. The team's name, ''Saguenéens'', literally means "People from the Saguenay." The current junior team is only the most recent to use the name. The "Sags", as they are popularly nicknamed, have won the President's Cup twice in their history, in 1990–91 and in 1993–94. In both instances they advanced to the Memorial Cup, failing to advance past the round-robin stage on each occasion. Joseph Jean-Philippe Gauthier (April 29, 1937 – February 20, 2013) was a Canadian professional ice hockey defenceman who played 166 games in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the Montreal Canadiens, Boston Bruins and Philadelphia Flyers and 31 games in the World Hockey Association (WHA) with the New York Raiders between 1960 and 1973. John Chabot
John David Chabot (born May 18, 1962) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player and coach. He played in the National Hockey League (NHL) from 1983 to 1991, and then played in Europe from 1991 until retiring in 2001. He later worked as a coach in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and spent two seasons as an assistant coach in the NHL in the 2000s. Pierre Rioux (born February 1, 1962) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player. He played 14 games in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Calgary Flames during the 1982–83 season, recording one goal and two assists. The rest of his career, which lasted from 1982 to 2001, was mainly spent in Germany. Playing career Rioux was born in Quebec City, Quebec. As a youth, Rioux played in the 1974 and 1975 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournaments with a minor ice hockey team from Quebec City.
