1981–82 Portland Trail Blazers Season
The 1981–82 Portland Trail Blazers season was the 12th season of the Portland Trail Blazers in the National Basketball Association (NBA). The Blazers finished 42–40, dropping three games more than in the previous season. Portland finished eighth in the Western Conference; as only six teams qualified in each conference for the 1982 NBA Playoffs, the Blazers did not participate in the postseason. This would be the only year the Blazers missed the playoffs between their championship season of 1976–77 and 2002–03. Jack Ramsay
John Travilla Ramsay (February 21, 1925 – April 28, 2014) was an American basketball coach, commonly known as "Dr. Jack" (as he held an earned doctorate). He was best known for leading the Portland Trail Blazers to the 1977 NBA championship, and for his broadcasting work with the Indiana Pacers, the Miami Heat, and for ESPN TV and ESPN Radio. Ramsay was among the most respected coaches in NBA history and a member of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. He was the winner of the Chuck Daly Lifetime Achievement Award for the 2009–10 NBA season. Early life John Travilla Ramsay was born on February 21, 1925, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Peter Gerard Verhoeven (born February 15, 1959) is a retired American professional basketball player. 1981–82 Detroit Pistons Season
The 1981–82 NBA season was the Detroit Pistons' 34th season in the NBA and 25th season in the city of Detroit. The team played in the Detroit suburbs at the Pontiac Silverdome. The Pistons had the second pick in the 1981 NBA draft and chose Isiah Thomas from Indiana, adding a future Hall of Fame player for the centerpiece of the rebuilding franchise. The team finished greatly improved, 39-43 (.476), 3rd in the Central Division, an 18-game improvement from the previous season. The 1981–82 Dallas Mavericks season was the second season of the franchise in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Rookie Jay Vincent led the team in scoring with 21.4 points per game and earned NBA All-Rookie Team honors. The Mavericks improved to 28–54, getting out of the Midwest Division cellar as they finished above the Utah Jazz.
