The 1980–81 Dallas Mavericks season was the first season of the franchise in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Dick Motta
John Richard Motta (born September 3, 1931) is an American former basketball coach whose career in the National Basketball Association (NBA) spanned 25 years. Motta coached the Washington Wizards, Washington Bullets to the 1978 NBA Finals, 1978 NBA Championship, and he won the 1971 NBA Coach of the Year Award with the Chicago Bulls. Motta is eighth all-time with 1,952 games as coach, while ranking 13th in wins and fourth in losses; he has the most wins of eligible coaches not currently inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame. In 25 seasons as a coach, he reached the postseason fourteen times. Abdul Qadir Jeelani (born Gary Cole; February 10, 1954 – August 3, 2016) was an American professional basketball player. Born in Bells, Tennessee, he was a 6'8" and 210 lb small forward and played college basketball for the Wisconsin–Parkside Rangers. He had a brief career in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Terry Duerod (July 29, 1956 – November 13, 2020) was an American professional basketball player. Ginebra San Miguel Philippines 1986 Amateur career A 6'2" guard out of Highland Park Community High School in the Detroit area, Duerod played college basketball under Dick Vitale at the University of Detroit (UD). Boyd established himself quickly with a Detroit program that would produce an unprecedented run during his time with the Titans (1975–1979).
