Athenian League
The Athenian League was an England, English amateur association football, football league for clubs in and around London. The league was originally to be called the Corinthian League,Athenian Football League minutes 1912-1921 (National Football Museum, Preston). but this name was rejected by the Football Association. It was formed in 1912 with ten clubs, but had to close down in 1914 due to the onset of World War I. When it reformed in 1920, only three of the previous teams rejoined. Clubs left and joined the league at a rate of about one a year, with a number leaving to join the Isthmian League, the strongest amateur league in the London area. Total membership remained fairly stable at between twelve and sixteen clubs until 1963, when it absorbed most of the clubs from two rival leagues, the Corinthian League (football), Corinthian League (most of whose former clubs formed Division One) and the Delphian League (most of whose former clubs formed Division Two). Park View Road
Park View Road is home to National League South professional Association football, football club Welling United F.C., Welling United, and was the ground of their predecessors Bexley United F.C., Bexley United. Welling have played there since 1977. It is also the home of Erith & Belvedere F.C., Erith & Belvedere who have been ground sharing since the 1999 season. The ground takes its name from a section of the A207 road in Welling, immediately adjacent to Danson Park. History Football has been played at Park View Road since the 1920s with a grandstand having been built by the late 1930s. It suffered damage from passing German bombers en route to The Blitz, bomb London in 1940 during World War II. It then lay derelict for some years after. New Recreation Ground
The New Recreation Ground was a football stadium on Bridge Road, Grays, Essex, England, and was the home ground of Grays Athletic. Prior to it being closed, the capacity stood at 4,100, of which 1,000 was seated. Grays Athletic moved to the ground, originally known as the Recreation Ground in 1906. Previously the ground had been home to Southern League club Grays United, but they had merged into Athletic. The record attendance of 9,500 was set in 1959 during an FA Cup tie with Chelmsford City. In 1981 the Club Patron, Mr. Ron Billings, ensured the future of Grays Athletic at the Rec by purchasing the ground. The ground was redeveloped at the beginning of the 2004–05 season in order to meet the standards set by the Football Conference, and was renamed the New Recreation Ground, often nicknamed The New Rec. 1981–82 Combined Counties Football League
The 1981–82 Combined Counties Football League season was the fourth in the history of the Combined Counties Football League, a association football, football competition in England. With the arrival of several new clubs, the league was split into two divisions – East and West. The Eastern Division was won by Malden Town F.C., Malden Town, after they won the league the previous season. The Western Division was won by Ash United F.C., Ash United. There was a championship playoff, which was won 3–0 on aggregate by Ash United. There was no promotion or relegation, although some clubs left the league at the end of the season and it reverted to a single division. 1981–82 Southern Football League
The 1981–82 Southern Football League season was the 79th in the history of the league, an English football competition. The league was split into Midland and Southern Divisions for a third and final season, at the end of it league restructuring for the forthcoming season meant that the top ten in each division (minus promoted clubs) would remain at the sixth level in a new Premier Division, whilst clubs finishing lower would be relegated to the seventh level. Nuneaton Borough won the Midland Division, whilst Wealdstone won the Southern Division, both earning promotion to the Alliance Premier League, having both also been relegated from the APL the previous season. Wealdstone were declared Southern League champions after defeating Nuneaton on penalties, after the two championship play-offs had finished 2–2 on aggregate (Wealdstone won 2–1 at home and Nuneaton won 1–0). 1981–82 Isthmian League
The 1981–82 season was the 67th season of the Isthmian League, an English football competition. Leytonstone & Ilford were champions, winning their first Isthmian League title two years after merging. There was no promotion from the Isthmian League to the Alliance Premier League till 1985. Bognor Regis Town were transferred from the Southern Football League and won promotion to the Premier Division at the first attempt. Camberley Town left the league at the end of the season. Chertsey is a town in the Borough of Runnymede, Surrey, England, southwest of central London. It grew up around Chertsey Abbey, founded in AD 666 by Earconwald, St Erkenwald, and gained a municipal charter, market charter from Henry I of England, Henry I.
