1980 Tirreno–Adriatico
The 1980 Tirreno–Adriatico was the 15th edition of the Tirreno–Adriatico cycle race and was held from 8 March to 13 March 1980. The race started in Cerenova and finished in San Benedetto del Tronto. The race was won by Francesco Moser of the Sanson team. Francesco Moser
Francesco Moser (, ; born 19 June 1951), nicknamed "Lo sceriffo" (The sheriff), is an Italian former professional road bicycle racer. He finished on the podium of the Giro d'Italia six times including his win in the 1984 edition. Moser was dominant from the mid-1970s to the early 1980s. He turned professional in 1973, showing a cultured pedaling style. But his powerful build meant he was not a gifted climber. He entered one edition of the Tour de France, in 1975, where he won two stages, held the maillot jaune for six days and finished 7th overall. He also won the 1977 world road racing championship in addition to collecting silver medals in 1976 and 1978. He won six times in three of the five monuments. Three consecutive editions of Paris–Roubaix, two victories in the Giro di Lombardia and one win in Milan–San Remo. Michel Pollentier (born 13 February 1951) is a Belgian former professional road bicycle racer. He became professional in 1973. The highlight of his career was his overall win in the 1977 Giro d'Italia. Pollentier is one of just three Belgian riders to win the Giro, the others being Eddy Merckx and Johan de Muynck. In the 1978 Tour de France, he was the Belgian national champion when he won the stage arriving in Alpe d'Huez, took the yellow jersey and would have been involved in a battle with Joop Zoetemelk and eventual winner Bernard Hinault for the remainder of the race as the three were within +0:30 of one another. Bernt Harry Johansson (born 18 April 1953) is a Swedish former road bicycle racer, who was a professional rider from 1977 to 1981. His sporting career began with Mariestadcyklisten. Gianbattista Baronchelli (born 6 September 1953) is an Italian retired professional road racing cyclist. He obtained a total of 94 victories. Career In 1973, as an amateur, he won the Tour de l'Avenir and the Baby Giro, and he was thought destined to win the Giro d'Italia. Although he knew the director of the Molteni team, they did not sign him, as they already had Eddy Merckx as their team captain, so Baronchelli signed a contract at the Scic team. Cerenova is a coastal locality that along with the adjacent Campo di Mare makes up the Marina di Cerveteri frazione of the comune of Cerveteri.
